replacing my cv axle today and finally got it apart after going through hell to get every little thing off anyways. then i got to the axle, gave it a pull and it fell apart. everythin came off except the tripod stuck in the trans. (nothings in the tripod except some grease) now idk what to do because i cant use the pullers you can rent from a autp parts store. so im at a loss as how to get it out and i need my car so this is a problem.

should be able to get a slide hammer wiht an attachment specifically designed to pop out cv axles. It looks like a flat large wrench head that slips around the axle. you have to give it some force but it'll pop out.

Pry bar works on the passenger side. Driver side it helps if you have someone with a pry bar put tension on one side while you pop it out on the other

Yeah, what these guys said. The axle has a C-clip on it the snaps into place when it goes all the way in. They can be a real bugger to get out sometimes. I usually take a long 1/2" drive extension and either put it against the back of the CV cup and hit it, or placed it between the CV cup and the transmission case and driven it in between them until it pops loose.

Get something against the backside of it from underneath and whack it with a hammer. It comes out a lot easier from a whack to knock the c-clip free than by pulling or prying.

If you pull or pry from a stand still, then the clip is doing it's job by holding. The C clip requires a quick application of force from a loose stand still to compress it.
