Custom Sub Box Location

I am getting a 10" Alpine S or X series soon and I want to make a custom box to fit in the front right side of the trunk where the wheel well indent is. Has any one done this? I've seen it done on a new challenger and since I only want one sub I dont what to place the single sub in the back of the trunk because personally I think it only looks good with two subs in the back of the trunk, but this seems like a good way to not compromise trunk space but to also make it look nice with only using one sub. Anyways how would the odd shaped box and positioning of the box effect the sound quality and what should I expect? I have pretty much decided to go ahead and try this positioning for the sub later this month just to see what it sounds like for myself and I will be sure to post up a video or at least tell you guys what I think of it but please leave any info you might have....

ive always found that the closer the sub is to the very rear of trunk the better sound u get...i have 2 10 in subs that slide around in trunk due to laziness of not mounting...when they slide up to rear of back seat they sound like crap.just my opinion though

Agree^^^^ That's where I put mine also. I think it's because th trunk is so big that you lose your sound before it hits the back of the trunk and bounces back forward. Even if you mount it on the right side at the rear of the trunk, speaker facing back, I think you'll still have ample amount of trunk area to fit your needs. Put, it where you are talking about and see how it sounds, then move it to the rear. Mount in the location that sounds better to you. JMO.

Alright cool sounds like this spot wont be to bad then, maybe i'll even angle the sub alittle towards the trunk opening. Also would it matter if the box is not a cube/rectangle?

alright cool I believe it is something like .5-1.5 ft cubed of air space for a 10" and I know I can get at least 1 cubic foot so hopefully if all goes as planned I'll have the box made by next week and everything hooked up by early sept... but plans never go as there planned so i'll be sure to get pictures up and possibly vid of the sound when its done.

there are alot of variables depending on sub size... box size...ported,sealed.ive tried all kinda dumb **** to get better sound and very rear of trunk has always been sweetspot.

You will lose only the higher notes on the sub depending on placement. From about 60hz down it stays the same no matter where the sub is located. So you can fix it by "tuning" your mid bass to pick up what your sub lacks. But I think you will be happy with it there. Just my 2 cents. Have fun and do a write up!
