curb damage

I managed to hit a curb with my winter car (2000 se) and one tie rod is broke and the other is bent. My mechanic is saying that the whole steering rack needs to be replaced as well does this sound right? he made it sound like the fluid would leak right out of it

It can be. Since we can't see it and you clearly hit pretty hard, I'll take his word for it.

Have him put in a used rack (~$40 here. ) Or fly Scotty out to do it., he's a master of racks

im not doing a rack in fargo, no thanks, wrong time of the year lol dont ya know :)

that movie is the best damn comedy thats not supposed to be one lol

Its getting a new rack. Sad thing is i was maybe going 20 but i had the wheels turned to try and save it but in the end i did more damage since i pretty much rammed the curb with the sidewall.

They also spotted my oil sending unit was leaking. which I will do myself since i presumed it was easy to do on these cars

if you got a garage to work in, rack swaps not the worst job ever. i just put a new one in my car, found one at napa on sale for 152 ish.

i dont even want to think about what the shop want to swap it.

dont forget, if you do it yourself, you'll need to hit the alignment shop asap.
