Booba if you ever want to sell me a pre-made wire kit let me know. I'm running out time trying to source wire , terminal ends with the correct size holes , the mesh shrink wrap over the wire casing , etc
This isn't the cheapest stuff, really. Not all that bad though. That was $12.87 to make, a little over 3 foot of wire at $3 a foot (I know i can get it cheaper) and 4 terminals at $.75 each. Once I get everything done I'll have a better idea on what's needed. I don't make a new starter wire because I don't see the point. A clean and well connected factory wire does just fine. I crimped and soldered so they aren't the most flexible towards the ends:
That does look good. I thought about a fuse, I might still add one, but I'd have to figure where to mount it with the stereo's fuses. For now I'm gonna pursue the whole 7\8" chain thing. I have an eager machinist that can modify 4T40E gears for the 4T65E, just gotta have him make a set for me first to figure out pricing.
So my question is, will the 05 Buick Lesabre Denso Hairpin alternator work with a 04 GP w/ the stock bracket? I am looking to upgrade the charging system slightly.
That's a good question. I don't know anyone with an 05+ around me, but I can look into it on the interwebz and see what I come up with. I'm stuck at work for now and I'm off all next week, so I'll see what I can't dig up.
My bad. I swear he said 05 GP. Yea, for the 04 the swap is the same as the first post. 05+ is where it gets a little hazy thanks to the current sensor.

I did it a few years ago and I've had no problems, I ran an AD244 and a CS130 and a CS 144. You have to shave 1/2'' off one of the mounting feet closest to the front bumper, but that's it! I recommend Excessive Amperage alternators, or Jimmie Hanna in Virginia Beach, Va.
This is a bottom view with an AD244 while the belt tensioner is off, you need to sawzall 1/2'' off the alt., COVER all the alt so shavings don't get into the alt!
So I know that this thread is old, but I figured I'd post here instead of staring a new thread.
I just competed this upgrade on my 2002 pontiac grand prix gt and the lesabre belt is very loose and sqeaks with new belt and tensioner. Should I try the stock belt?
Also, the battery light is on and throwing codes for alternator output, but I'm getting 14.2v output and battery is charging fine.
Is the pulley on the alternator smaller? If so, you would need a smaller belt. I just took my belt to the parts store and asked the for oe that was an inch or two shorter. That might do it, you could be having belt slipping problems. Did your new alt have a 4 pin oval plug? If not, that would trigger that light.
I'll have to check the size, but it's the stock 1998 lesabre alternator pulley size. Should I go with something smaller? I compared it to the stock gp pulley and it's identical. Should I be using the stock gp belt instead of the lesabre then? I know the camaro's is too big.
I'm using stock lesabre plug with 4 pins and two wires. Sense wire to fuse box and other to stock ecu red.
not all of the full size GM's used all 4, one is pcm field control, one is remote V sensing, another is wired to the battery temp thermistor on the G bodies with under rear seat battery's 4th isn't used but on other models with the 130
Thanks turbocharged400sbc. Turns out that the 99 buick lesabre CS144s uses ignition field sense to an indicator light instead of our hookup that uses the pcm and class 2 data to monitor and activate charging. I unfortunately ended up burning out my voltage regulator before I realized this, but the "F" wire goes to the ignition wire (pink wire under driver's side dash) connected with a 200 Ohm resistor and a 10 amp fuse. Eventually I'll run an indicator light in parallel to the resistor so I have a charge light again, but that would involve me caring about having a charge light... :th_laugh-lol3:
Good news is that everything works perfect, but I had to fry an alternator to find out... hope this helps someone!
