Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement [*]

Why not change it yourself. It's literally a 30 min job just takes a trip to lowes or Home Depot and picking up the correct bolts and then renting a harmonic balancer pulley from autozone. No sense in paying a mechanic for something so easy.

Erm...in case you haven't noticed, I'm in the UK, haha! I've also got mobility problem so can't work on my car too much anymore.

So is the crankshaft oil seal right behind the harmonic balanced? Is it just a pull off and put new one on deal?

It's a pain in the buns to get out with it in the car as opposed to being on a workbench. It's possible though. Put a light bead of RTV around the outter edge of it where it'll get pressed in the casing. Then tap the new one in place. Also I'd suggest lightly touching the surface of the harmonic balancer where the seal makes contact. Say a green scrub pad.

and what do you mean on a workbench? What exactly would be on the workbench?

i think hes talking about tapping the new seal in the hole. it needs to go in just right, you cant dent the edges or it will leak.

First off...I live on Ultra Copper RTV. It's the only one allowed in the toolbox. Does everything well.

On the workbench, as if I had the front cover off the motor and laying on a workbench. Makes it easy to see/feel/do anything when you aren't in a confined area. To get the seal in..find something around the place to use as a driver. Something the same size around that you can tap on to drive the seal in place.

Gotcha. Thanks alot. Unfortunately ill be dealing with it on the car so ill jjust be sure to be careful.

for the record..that is my workbench under this cover. :th_thumbsup-wink:

And that'd be a spare charger casing next to it

Well ill be damned! Got the wheel off, started it and its coming right of the plug on tthe oil sending unit. Steady stream of oil. I guess I should look into things before I start assuming stuff!

change that pos right away, they leak bad when they blow out all the way. its a 12 dollar part, but keep an eye on it, i went through 3 of them, from every parts store here. i now have a brass 60 cent plug in the hole, sick of changing it.

channel locks work great to take it out, dont drive the new one in to far, stop when its snug, and into the thread locker on the new sensor threads.
