Please Help, Im pretty sure my crankshaft balancer came off when i started my car up today. do you think that the pully under it is going bad, or the balancer just got wore out? what's the easiest way to replace it. do i need the three-leg puller like my Chilton says or the tool J29113 (Crankshaft Balancer Installer)?

I have yet to have the privilage:th_depressed: of replacing one of these. Please help, any feedback would be a great help!

can you take a pic of the front err pass. side of the motor?? The crank pulley isnt something that comes off for no reason.I bet your idler pulley is shot..

I've seen the rubber on some higher milage cars start to crack but I've never heard of one deteriorate to the extent of separation on one of these cars.

yeah, my car has about 142k, the rubber was starting to crack, i started it up the other day and the pulley came off.
BTW- im trying to take the bolt off and its turning, but not getting any looser and the crankshaft is spinning with it, is this also normal? I dont have an impact socket in any metric size, is there anything else i could be using besides a regular socket and wrench?

yeah, the crank is going to spin unless you hold the motor still. look where the transmission meets the motor underneath the car and take off a few covers that are over the flywheel. put a vice grips on it so it catches and keeps the motor from turning over. then you can take the crank bolt off, but its doing to still be a bear unless you have some nice air tools.
