The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
I know it may sound like an idiot question but I'm at a loss. Trying to remove the crank pulley on my dads 06 Grand Prix and the bolt won't budge. Tried an impact but no luck. Any suggestions?
Not an idiot question, these things put up quite a fight. Lock the flexplate with a vicegrip and pull on the crank bolt with a 4 foot breaker bar. Should do the trick.
Once you get the bolt out be sure you have the proper bolts/remover for the balancer so you don't damage it. Also, once you go to reinstall the balancer be sure you line up the woodruff key and shove the balancer on by hand to be sure it's correct before you run the bolt back in or you could screw up the key slot in the crankshaft. It happens more than you would think so just a heads up.
Thanks for the suggestion guys. I bought a new impact and didn't make a lick of difference so I used the redneck method and stopped when I heard it snap loose. Now to buy the bolts for the puller. I had some at one time but my garage is a nightmare. They are probably hiding with my 13mm deepwell. I will go to lowes and get the 1/4" bolts to remove the pulley. Then I can finish this blasted timing cover
Thanks for everyone's help! from breaking the bolt loose with the engine, to the tutorial that showed the crank pulley removal I've got the pulley off the car. I may not have my Grand Prix any longer but am glad I am able to get help when I work on my Dad's car.
