Cracked upper motor mount bracket

vailskier3

just call me john-o
So I went to flip my dogbones the other day because I finally got some wd40. To my surprise, one of my motor mounts was cracked right through the two arms that hold it to the block. I started this thread to see if anyone has had this problem, and also to just let the community know about it in case this starts to become an issue with more than just me. My only mod is headers so I doubt my n/a engine is pushing enough hp to crack a motor mount! Lol

It seems to happen alot on the aluminum brackets, I thought they switched over to the cast brackets on anything from 01 and up.. Back in the day we thought it was the motor mounts or tranny mounts.. Hell we replaced them and busted that bracket again... Finally just said screw it and put the cast bracket on from the GTP's... I know of atleast 4 GP GT's that had this just in OKC.

yeah, but it looks like they made it so that it's part of the block now, so i don't know how i'm going to replace this...

had a customer with an 01 break his aluminum bracket for his dogbone on the pass side, i didnt find any other mounts bad, i replaced it and been over a year, still good as new. the bracket is fun to get off because of the two bolts they used, like torques head.....sumthin weird i remember. good luck.

i guess i should go ahead and order it from morad then. is it fairly easy to install? do i just unbolt it and put the new one on? or is it one of those...you have to take of the valve covers, spin around three times, blah blah blah...???

un bolt, bolt on.

make sure you get the complete coil bracket assy with the aluminum plate and the bolts that come with it to hold the bracket to the head and the coils to the bracket. you'll need the ones from the bracket you're gonna get.

I have gone through a couple of that style of mount. Called Ed Morad up and he send me a different part that bolts to the side of the head. Worked out great :)

just so everyone can see where it cracked and whatnot...

Not to be digging up a rather old thread but how did you fix this problem? I have the same problem and need to get it fixed. Did you get one of the same ones or did you put something else off another car on it??? Can someone please post a pic so i can see how this is fixed.... Thanks!

i actually switched the bracket from a 97-03 and put it in my 07, my buddy picked it up at a junkyard for $7.50. took all of 30 minutes to change it, and i haven't had an issue since...

this is the new mount installed on the engine.

IIRC, all i did was unbolt the old mount, remove the coil pack assy, and unplug the wires to it. then the new (used) mount bolted right back up and just make sure you put the plug everything back in and have your plug wires correct!

Everything 97-03 is the same...infact even the 04+ supercharged cars used the same coil pack bracket...so that is all you'll need.
