cps and harmonic balancer replacement problems case learn needed?

2001 pontiac grand prix gtp
Original symptoms:
Regular driving tach goes to zero no cel
Regular driving car stutters no cel
Took excessive amounts to start key on key off cars starts (very rarely did this).
Car rarely throw cel and was gone before i could check.

Parts changed:
Pulled harmonic balancer and replaced.
Pulled off crank position sensor replaced it.
Bolt on end showed wear on 1 thread replaced it with bolt from ace Hardware

Following results:
After replacing of all parts start car everything runs good. Drive it 5 miles that day.
Next day car drive good but after about 20 miles car begins to have stutters as before but occuring in few second intervals as well rpm surge between 500 and 1700 car sounds like its going to stall

What I have done to fix problem:
Pull neg battery terminal restart car.
Results: first time fixed it only for a minute. Next time enought to get me about 5 miles.
3rd time it has not done the stuttering since and put about 20 miles on in 3 different trips.

Could this be a result of needing a case learn or is something else massively wrong?

Case learn is $100 and not trying to throw money at the wrong problem

Which engine are we talking about? Since the car runs, please have it scanned. Hopefully they'll see the history code that is stored.
 


Is the vid working?
Case learn is about 100 from a dealer but my buddy my be able to get a snapon scanner.

Going to change fuel filter and see if that helps
 
FYI, that 180* thermostat is only going to hurt fuel mileage and not give any better cooling unless you are tuned for it, as the stock fan turn-on points are still at the 195* range...
 
The previous owner put it in im going to just leave it cause the plan is to turbo it and eventally get hp tuner for that.

Its looking like the car needs some basic maintenance filters and wires (wire show signs of arc near contact with metal)

The fuel filter definitely showed a noticeable difference as soon as I started it seems to idle smoother hopefully thats the mystery problem.

Being on the jack for a while may have caused trash to get picked up.

Well car continues to have same problem

Appears to be link to after the car is hot.
Had an tech 2 scanner on it today and every thing seems normal. Unfortunately I am an idiot and never did the case learn but at this point im thinking this is not the case.

Ltft were 3 and stft stay about 0

Knock retard when the car was wot was 3

When the car began surging the mv for the front o2 were jumping around.

Car has white residue on exhaust tips and pulled a plug and was pretty white.

Car seems to run lean during sputter

Car ran fine when cool and wot had no problems smooth.

Just changed plug wires
When problem occured unplugged
Maf sensor problem not solved
Unplugged o2 sensor problem not solved

Could this be
Icm or coil pack?
Or dredged lim gasket?

Car does not seem to do it if hood open and just idle
 


Problem was solve it appears

Faulty replacement cps
Put new one in and has been fine for last couple days.

The heat may have been shorting out the signal.
