Could it be... the MAF screen?!?!?!

Ive been having idle issues after driving for a little while the idle will be high.. when in drive coming to a stop it is at around 1500 and when in park or neutral it jumps to 2000-3000. Ive been beating myself up trying to figure out the issue.. replaced tps, IAC, cleaned MAF sensor. I just remembered that when i cleaned the throttle body i removed the screen... i figured.. wtf why have it there. Now that i have read a little bit it seems it has caused some issues with some cars when it is removed. I know it can cause a rough idle, but can my idle is smooth.. just extremely high.. think this is the culprit?

No... you have a problem elsewhere

I have the screen removed on mine and the idle is a little rough, but its right where it needs to be... Possible vacuum leak?

I had it checked today.. there was one little leak that was repaired and still doing it. It almost seems like it sticks... so tonight when i get home im going to rip off the throttle body and clean it good and throw on a new gasket when i reattach it... Im not throwing any codes either.. If the maf was reading incorrectly wouldnt it show some code?

First time i cleaned it the throttle body was still attached... im sure i didnt hit alot of spots and maybe even made some areas a little worse... Its gonna get a good scrubbing tonight when i actually take that bad boy off.

Thats what everyone keeps saying about the screen.. Its an added part that most cars dont have in place that cuts down on air flow... i dont know, in my opinion its better to have it out. besides, i kind of mangled it when i took it out so i would have to buy a new one.. If cleaning it doesnt work i guess thats what ill try next.

Put the screen in.. Don't listen to TL. His experience is the 1 in a 100. Most start running lean, have idling issues and realize.. the screen has a purpose.

Put it back in..then smack yourself for not mentioning that in your idling threads.

The purpose of the screen is to straighten and smooth out the air flow a car runs better if the air its sucking in is not turblent

FYI Bill,

No need to smack myself... After taking off throttle body cleaning it and putting it back with a new gasket it seems just about perfect now... Im still going to replace the screen though just to be safe.

mine seemed fine then i scanned it and realized how much not having the screen in really messes stuff up.

Yea im gonna go the the u pull it junk yard tomorrow and see if i can find one.. if not ill order one and get it middle of next week.

So I hit up the junk yard today.. found 2 screens and a almost brand new car jack for a whopping total of 6 dollars. Suck it dealership!! :th_peaceout:

FYI.. noticed an immediate difference with idle and driving... I hate to admit it, but that screen is there for a reason... anyone thinking about removing it, DON'T!!!
