Could I make money flipping this engine?

Do you guys think I could make money tearing this motor down?
It's an 05 NA with the better rods and only 42k miles, barely broken in.
I know a lot of members do side work/flip cars and I wouldn't mind trying to supplement some modding income.

How would you break down the prices for the heads, block, UIM and LIM?
Tell me if I'm close with this...
Purchase $350
Sell the heads $200?
manifolds $125? for both
Block $200?

You really have to find the buyers, if your selling it on here, not many people are lookin for NA heads, a few turbo guys might snag the lim and everything above it but they go for 30-60 everything shipped. If someone wanted an L26 block, they are going for 300 locally if u look, so why bother with just a shortblock? It really depends on the need you have there, but there are tons of NA 3800 motors that outlast the car.

According to car-part, there's a 56K mile one in Hazleton for $300. If you are buying for more than car-part, which is all the JY's online. It doesn't seem like a good number.

I just sold some L32 heads for 120 shipped great shape with reusable rocker bolts and newer viton seals

Nobody wants manifolds, I was lucky to get rid of a couple at $5-10 each and I threw about 6 pieces away

Bottom end would be worth 200-350 depending on the demand and what kinda buyer you get and where but like Bill said most of us can get them locally for that price and not have to pay the $150 to ship the thing.

If you need it or think you may in the not too distant future, buy it. If you think it's gonna make you money, just walk away.

I flip cars on the side anywhere from 1-5ish cars a year, I pick them up from friends, relatives, craigslist and such. Most with blown motors or other major repairs needed. I won't buy a car if I can't at least double what I have into it(purchase price and parts/fluids) Cars are more the way to go, even if your just parting them... It's like buying car parts in bulk when you buy a whole car, but when you buy a single item like an engine your going to pay more. I've sometimes found it cheaper to buy whole wrecked cars with good motors to get the motors I need to swap into the ones with good bodies and then be able to part whats left of the wrecked one and make even more...

^^ Very true.

At one point I had two full SC'd drivetrains sitting side by side in my garage.

One came from a wrecked Regal that I drove out to. $250 and take anything I wanted. I pulled a good chunk of the car the full drivetrain etc.

The other from a buddies wrecked Regal, I paid $400 for it and sold easily $400 in parts, then had the full drivetrain sitting around.

I've flipped a few cars and find it easy since I setup craigsnotification on my phone for w bodies under 1,000 in my area. Let them come to you.
