cooling fan question

On my 01 gtp the cooling system has been really odd. today i started the car for the first time in a few days to look at something else and both of the cooling fans were on.

The engine was cold and they turned on as soon as the car did

When are they supposed to come on? and could this be a faulty temp sensor??
 


Well it came on all the time so I changed it out with a brand new one

The problem now is that it says the temperature is all the way up as soon as you start it......

Wtf is going on???
 
It was a bad temp sensor and I got the "better brand" in there now and it works, but those fans still come on. What else could cause this?
 
fans come on as soon as the car is fired up? thats the default when you unplug the sensor. both fans on all the time.

you likely got a bad wire from the temp sensor to the fans. that harness gets baked in the heat of the exhaust pipe there, check the wires in the short harness to the temp sensor for cracks or bare wire showing.
 


anythings possible, but its send to the dash and pcm as per your scanner telling you the temp as well right?

so that leaves a break between the plug and fans.
 
Well its not really getting the full voltage on the gauge and the pcm. I know the engine is way hotter than what it's saying

It looks like where the wires go into the connector they have some bare wire and also look pretty cooked....

I don't have my scanner right now but i will in a few days
 
you need to replace that short harness off the temp sensor then. bare wires are dead wires.

the exhaust is right there baking the crap out of it. put a fork in it....
 


your fine till you hit the junk yard for another one. the fans are just on full time. heater may suck but it wont over heat.
 
So I got 2 new ones at my junk yard and neither of them worked. They were off old cars and they looked about the same as mine but they both let the fans come on.

Does this mean the problem is farther down the cables?
 
if the harness is the same style, same plugs. id look on the other side of that plug on the lim there for more damaged wires.

On the thing the wire also look fine

 
follow that wire, see if you can find any damage.

your on a mission now. when its not the simple things get a bit tougher.

your heat and or a/c are off right? cause the ac turns the fans on, defroster should also make the fans turn on.
