whats the best coolant to buy for my 06 gt supercharged? im going to flush all the sh1tty dexcool out soon
 


cheap store brand is fine. get a gallon of straight antifreeze, (its all you need) not the 50/50 pre mix crap. what a waste of money that stuff is.
 


I bought two gallons(8 quarts) of the "cheap stuff" green conventional antifreeze, added exactly 6 and the system was full. Beforehand the system had pure water from a flush, so it's nearly exactly 50/50.
 
A 70% water, 30% antifreeze can go down to about 0° F according to a tester I've got. My friend used 50/50 as if it was pure and got that ratio(on his car). That's not very good protection though. 50/50 is what's recommended, and you can go as high as 70% antifreeze and 30% water.
 


you can buy a antifreeze tester for about 5 bucks still. it will tell you how cold your coolant is good for the way its mixed in your rad.

i do the one gallon of coolant and fill it the rest of the way with water. it gets to around zero degree's ( water freezes at 32 deg's so cold) here in the winters and the rad is always green liquid. no slush ever.
 
The lowest I can ever remember getting to in warren is like 12 degrees, it could have gotten colder here in my lifetime but I don't remember it. All it takes is some wind on those days, and high school was cancelled. And the tester he's talking about is what I used. (the cheapie ones with the ball or little floating needle). I've used spectrographs to measure the freezing point before, but they're not so cheap. Probably more accurate though.

Yes so do I, 50/50 is the key, and any pure green coolant will do lol. Universal will work too, I was going to use it in mine, and upon posting that I got raged at just to use green so I did.

And wow, my tester must be accurate. I mentioned it said 4 quarts in a 12 quart system would be good til 0°F, the chart shows exactly that. Cool, I guess I'll keep it around lol
 
When I replaced the radiator I flushed the block like crazy, then filled it with as much of a gallon of conventional green as it would take, then filled the rad with the rest, then topped it off with water. 50/50 then went into the overflow bottle, which emptied itself twice and had to be refilled before all the air finally got out of the system. I'm probably somewhere around 40% at this point, which is more than enough for southern Ohio.

Next spring I'll flush the system again, because I know there's still remnants of Dexcool in the block that I'll never fully get out.
 
If you flush each component individually, you can get 100% of it out.(Coolant, not sludge) (Engine, Radiator, Heater core) I'd flush with full pressure from the garden hose, backwards and forwards for at least 30 seconds each. That's a lot of pure water to run through it. The radiator is the most important to backflush. Putting the hose in the top, a lot of the water may go through the bottom half of the tubes, whereas putting it in the bottom, the water is forced to fill it up, then go out the top.

This is a pretty often asked about topic, I'm making a video when I flush our impala's system again.
