coolant temp issue

'08 GP base 3800. back in early fall I did a coolant flush and decided to replace the tstat along with it. temp went from running halfway on the gage to 1/4 on the gage. in cab heat when from blaring heat to "meh." broke down earlier this week and thought possibly defective tstat. without testing it I dropped a new tstat in. same issue but temp gage is a bit lower than 1/4 and heat is still "meh."
what could be possible issues?
temp sensor?? water pump?? although when I've had a water pump goin it leaked or gage would start to skyrocket.

Its chilly here in Michigan, I'm old(er) and want good heat, dammit!:th_biggrin2:
 


Did you bleed the air out of the system per the instructions on here after doing the replacement t-stat? Could be an air pocket in the system.
 
Another thing that comes to mind is a clogged heater core, or if you have dual HVAC then maybe a blend door actuator is messed up?

I have heat but just not the blaring turn down the heat heat and the temp gage is a bit lower than 1/4.
this morning I decided fun in the cold would be fun! LOLOL
I flushed the heater core, which seems to have given me back the ,"dam I gotta turn down the heat" back- yay!!
burped the system again and think I have all the air out... but Ive been told I'm not good at thinking. :)
temp gage moved up a bit to just above 1/4 but something I noticed when burping the system:
I had done some driving so everything was up to temp. cracked the rad cap and there was no pressure. gonna go get a new rad cap and see what happens.
 


Congrats on the mileage! I remember seeing that once, lol.. Still plenty of life left in that engine.

Yay for heat! Yea, mine is known to burn you out during the winter. At least it has good heat.

As far as the no pressure thing, that is usually either a cap issue (not sure what brand/style of cap you bought) or a coolant leak somewhere. Honestly, as long as the coolant is full and it's not overheating I'd drive it and just keep an eye on the coolant level. Could be that there is still some random air in the system somewhere or you just happened to get a defective cap out of the box. Also, did you clean the area on the rad neck where the cap goes? Sometimes junk will build up there and not allow the cap to seal good.

good heat is good!! we are aposted to be coin into a a good cold snap end of the week- temps struggling to get out of single digits so heat= REAL good!!

im gonna run it for now. too cold for my ass to dink around too much. I am throwing a coolant temp low but don't seem to be effecting anything.

I bought this one because I was looking for a new ride. my criteria: I wanna be able to get on the expressways or get out and pass without it screaming like a banshee, be comfortable driving, and a decent stereo is a plus. a good friend had an 05 GP at the time . 120 mile round trip daily to work. said,"its pretty peppy and drive nice."
found this with 93k miles for $2200.
I don't hammer on it or granny it. usually a lot of city driving. when I do have to get on an expressway, Im scooting and the engine isn't cranking high RPMs to do it
