Coolant Temp Gauge

I noticed this morning my temp gauge is working when the car is warmed up. it does move when the gauge cluster does its self-test. I used the Torque app to check the temp and everything seems ok there. any suggestions on what would cause this? is it a bad sensor somewhere?
 


after the self-test is done, the needle wont move with the increase in temp. the vehicle is warmed according to the torque app
