Coolant Temp Gauge

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to this forum so thanks in advance for answering my question.

So a few weeks ago, I was on my way home from work, and my coolant temperature gauge dropped. The engine had already heated up (there was hot air coming out of the vents) and the gauge still does its start-up movements so I know that the gauge its self works. When I got out of the car, I noticed that the radiator fans were going full blast also. Then I turned the car off, and restarted it (after filling up with gas) and it was a very hard start. It cranked normally, but I had put the gas to the floor, as if the engine was flooded. After talking with a few of my mechanic friends, we figured it was the coolant temperature sensor. So I replaced it, and life was all good for a few weeks. Today however, the car did the exact same thing.

I read another post about a guy re-wrapping some of his wiring under the hood and then this happening to him, but I haven't been under the hood for a few weeks (other than to do an oil change, but nothing involving wiring at all)

Just wondering if you guys have any idea as to what I should check for.

Thanks

and cause I forgot to mention this in my original post, I have an 07 GP base model. (as seen in profile picture)

Take a look for codes. I realize the light isn't on..but have it checked. Clear them if possible and check again a day or two later. Hopefully it'll show up and give you soemthing to go on.

Otherwise..it's possible the sensor/bad wiring can give you false readings. Scottydoggs is the spokesperson here about how wiring gets crumbly and bad when it lives over exhaust for most of it's life... He'll likely pop in since I mentioned his name and give you the in's and out's of the potential wiring issue.

so I checked my coolant level, its good. and I realised something over the weekend and tested it out. whenever I plug in my block heater, the temperature gauge stops working. sometimes its necessary for me to plug in because it gets so cold here. so just wondering if anyone has any ideas on that?

Thanks for the advice, and let me know what you think.
