• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Coolant sitting on top of lower intake manifold?

Oh my bad the UIM issue doesn't apply to you since the Series III 3800's came stock with an aluminum upper plenum.
You can use both gaskets on the thermostat, no harm will be done.

Nice job on the gasket replacement, everything running well and no leaks?

No all good, drain & filled the coolant in case there were any pieces of gasket or RTV floating around. Also Seafoamed the crankcase and let her sip the other half through the brake booster line to let sit for 45 min. The fuel injector o-rings were in pretty bad shape for never being pulled. I see now where all the carbon came from that was sitting on top of the LIM. Right out of the EGR port. I also wonder if the PCV pick-up tube wasn't flopping around in there before, letting the intake pull more oil in...??? It wasn't seated under the PCV valve when I removed it. It didn't have a very reassuring feel to it on re-installation either. Maybe mine has warped over time and heat?

Change that oil soon with seafoam in the oil. Many wouldn't ever use it in the oil, some say just leave it in no more than 50-100 miles.
My idea is I'd only use it if I have a problem like there was sludge and a noise like lifter tapping. And would run it 50 miles.

At 170k this is only the second time I have done so. It's petroleum based so it safe in short intervals. I only have 40 mi on it and I'm taking it in for oil change in the AM.

only real difference is its got a fuel rail and injectors and a bunch of sensors to remove. once the wire harness and injectors are off its just like the old days.

Ya know scotty, you and Bill boost and Drunkie are the three biggest reason, I got my confidence back and started working on cars again, and came to realize it does not have to be rwd to be modded and to have fun with it. I thank you guys, I really do, you've all talked me through some things
