Coolant Question

What is the little sensor to the right of the thermostat on a 2004 Grand Prix GTP CompG. It has a little bit of coolant on it. The coolant is orange-ish right? Everything is running fine I just noticed a little bit. Maybe I should just try and tighten the sensor. I just wanted to know what sensor it is.

That is you coolant temp sensor, if it has coolant coming from it u might want to pull it out and clean the thread and put Nylon tape back on it. This would be a great time to change coolant since u will be loosing some. You could change to green coolant.
 
Thanks! How much will I loose if I take it off and clean it up?
I'm sort of engine savvy, but I don't have the ability to change my coolant right now, I live in the city and don't have a place to change it.
