coolant problem and radiator

okay so my car is boiling coolant out of the resivoir. the gauge inside reads cold.. i topped of the coolant and it runs fine if your driving. it boild when im stopped. i noticed the radiator fan wont turn on. i think its because the gauge is reading so low it thinks it doesnt have to turn on? but if the coolant is boiling i would think the temp gauge would read high. so im confused in what to do. think its the radiator? thermostat?

How do you know its boiling? Sometimes you may think that, but its not boiling it simply is pressurized and sprays out when you release the cap. But if it is actually boiling I agree with the post above. Check thermostat, engine coolant sensor, and at least drain and refill if you don't flush.

You can tell its boiling if the coolant bottle in the engine bay is gathering antifreeze at a large rate. When the radiator does boil, it is suppose to spill over into that tube that leads back to the external coolant tank.

ive heard people say a head gasket cause of bubbles. but when its running for the first 5-10 minutes theres no bubbling. and theres no check engine light on. this is my friends car and a month ago she had the t-stat replaced by an unknown person not in a shop. if they put one in too cold would that be a cause? so if the coolant isnt "boiling" why would it be bubbling? the temp gauge in the car is reading cold. and doesnt raise. i replaced the radiator cap but no luck. you think a bad radiator is causing all of this? or is it fine but not turning on becuse its reading cold. also, if theres air in the system will it cause this?

maybe it's the water pump and the fan relay that's causing your problem, something to think about:th_thumbsup-wink:

i dont think it would be the water pump if the engine temp gauge reads cold. so i know the water pump is working. i checked the relay and thats good too but i might just replace it. i hate weird problems

Noticed mine will get up to over 220 and when I shut the car off the fan won't stay running. Wondering if that relay could be the issue.....

i got a 04 gt1 n/s and i put a new thermostat 160 , but when i did ,i thought i would make the car run cooler , but instead ,the needle would stay at the half way mark and it would go over a little after driving around, dose anyone else have this problem ???? dose the P C M have to be programed ?? :th_thumbsup-wink:
