Coolant light, module melt.

Hi Everyone,

I have a couple of chronic issues;

1) The LOW coolant light is almost constantly on. I have checked the level when cool and the fluid is up to the fill neck and fluid in the over flow. It tends to run hot when in non-moving traffic. I run the heat to keep it in check, cools right down when moving. I had two small plastic elbows replaced last year on the back side of the engine. The carpets are dry. The problem got much worse over the winter, loosing coolant constantly, needing to add coolant once a week! Should I flush the system and change the thermostat? ( never flushed a system before)

2) Squeaking idler pulley. I changed it a few months ago, still squeaks. There is a build up of dark material on it, maybe coolant or oil leaking onto it?

3) Last year I had the module melt, the one that energizes the access. until you open the doors. I am starting to smell the oder of a burning candle again. The same smell before it melted. What could cause this to go for a second time? I am worried about a fire and another $80.00 part.:th_angry2:

4) Any way to re-set the blender doors? I replaced the driver side motor and it leaks warm air when I run the A/C.

Lots to chew on, sorry about that but I could use the help.;)

I don't have any melting advice.

What I can say is that the low coolant sensor that goes into the radiator is a failure point for these cars. I've disconnected mine (after replacing it only to have the new one fail shortly after installlation). This gets rid of the stupid low coolant light.

Also, the drivers side will blow warm when you're low on freon. 9/10 times the belng motor is a red herring.

Believe me - I tore apart my whol dash on this only to realize that it was a complete waste of time. When you're a little low on freon, you will get cold air on the pass side and warm on the driver's. Search the forums for blend motor or the like and you will see what I mean.

Before you waste any time on a belnd motor, pickup a can of freon. I bet it fixes your issue.
 
What is your definition of hot? These cars run hot to begin with. What's the temp gauge say its at?

If the temp is too high then you may just need to bleed the cooling system properly. There is probably air trapped in it somewhere.
 
the squeak noise could be the water pump, and it could be whats leaking. mine is doing the same thing now. take the belt off, and see if the water pump pulley has play in it, if so thats one problem found.

this could be also why you run hot in traffic, coolant is low and causing air in the system, needs to be bleed well.

do you have dual climate control? if so the pass side actuator seems to be the master actuator if you have dual control.

not sure if gp's have a fuse for the climate control, (regals do) if so pull that or unhook the battery to reset the actuators. pull the power for 15 t0 30 minutes, and hook it back up. you should hear them sweep back and fourth when you turn the key to on.

or the refrigerant could be low in the a/c system.
 


On the coolant. You have a leak somewhere. Have the system pressure tested, if you find the leak ...you will likely stop running warmer than it should.

Kind of interesting how you say the light is on..but it's full, then you say you add often.

What I was saying is, currently the level is stable, "over the winter", the problem was much worse, having to add water often. I have since discovered the elbows are leaking again. My next real concern is the cause for the module to over heat and melt behind the dash board.

I'd be looking at the wiring and trying to find something that is rubbed or causing a shorting issue on the wiring.

And..fix the elbows. Only takes about an hour.
