Coolant issue, thinking head gaskets...

you can check the lim tq, id not take em out and re do em tho. whats the point?

if the sc gasket is wet again, ( high on the suspect list) you know thats the issue. make sure the lim and blower are both 100% free of any old gasket too. if any old crap has been left on thats a possible leak for sure.
 


Got off work a little early to start this process over the weekend and got busy...

It doesn't look as bad as I had expected under there...

Although, the gasket "came right off" with the blower and appears wet again...

Am I missing something during install?

Should I leave it a truly "dry" install this time as to "tacking" the gasket with spray gasket?

I picked up another gasket just to do it that way instead of the other RTV method...

Also, in this pic, it appears the gasket didn't "seal" / like the sc didn't "squish" it when bolted down? (Around the port the spray gasket is still there)

Yes, the gasket is oily-wet...Doesn't seem to be coolant?

Looks like PCV might be the source of oil?

You see the o-ring is above the lip of the PCV and under the spring...

Is this the correct way to install?

Should the o-ring be under the PCV lip?

Mine is currently *under* the PCV lip...so sandwiched between the PCV and sc instead of between the PCV and spring...

oh, clean that tb better, that whole brass plate on the back side. push it open clean the sides of the flap and the walls of the tb good where it sits in the closed position.

Yea, I was losing sunlight quick yesterday after my post, so I decided not to rush the re-install and waited to finish it off today...

I may just pick up a new PCV for peace of mind and some more throttle body spray to clean it up more...

id be closing off those coolant ports in the lim.

I am interested in this "mod", although I live in SMOG crazy CA and I am unsure if this will affect my ability to pass SMOG...

Also, if I did decide to do this mod, it is easier done with the LIM off, correct?

I have to dremel down the side port (under the EGR tube) and I dont think this can happen with the LIM attached plus the shavings need to be cleaned out and would be easier with it off...

Also, this go round didn't look like coolant but more like oil although this thread is about my coolant issue....

I'll get it all back together and pressure up the cooling system and see what happens...

To add to what Scott said, this mod won't effect your emissions testing.
 
Just a quick update --

I got a wild hair today and decided to pull the water pump and swap in a new one...

Also went through the extra effort of finding the "stamped" metal/rubber gasket...

Even though my coolant elbows are fairly new, I thought since I was pulling the water pump, might as well get some new elbows as well...

On a good note, I found that the PCV valve for some reason had 2 o-rings in the PCV "chamber"...I looked and inspected for some time before I noticed the 2nd o-ring in there...

It was causing the lip of the PCV valve to be above the bottom of the side-draft opening for the air flow...

I sketched up something in paint of what I noticed--

Hopefully finding this issue resolves the oiliness under the blower...

Also, after everything was back together, I tried to pressurize the cooling system again and started spraying fittings with soap water...

I found the heater core hose adapters o-rings were shot and being Chevy is closed today, I picked up 2 of these --

The price for the o-ring from the dealer is 14.00 and local price for new fitting was 16.00 so in essence I paid for having them now...

It's getting late here so I have to plan on putting a bow on it tomorrow...

Well, got it all back together and pressurizing the system shows it holds ~15 PSI...

I thought about leaving the tool hooked up over night, although I decided to finish off the work...

I am still seeing temps rise and fall, although I don't remember where the temps actually like to be...(I have a few other cars and don't generally drive the GTP much or the wife is driving it)

In my other car, the temp gauge usually rides in one spot for the duration of the trip...

Does the GTP like to fluctuate?

It seems when I stop in traffic is when I see temps rise, when I'm moving I see them fall...

Although, I have yet to see it rise above ~212-213 via OBD scan tool...

if you sit and idle the temps will rise to 210 easy, (your fans dont turn on till 212) then drop when your moving. pretty normal.

check your rad coolant level over the next few mornings, keep the over flow filled to its line too. it will self bleed over time if you left any air in there.
 
I have same issue with my GTP. With 140K miles I plan on doing the LIM gaskets, and while I'm at replace the S/C bearings. My question now being that I don't plan an intercooler but would there be any benifits to the S/C phenolic spacers that are available?
 
The spacer would do you no good and the supercharger bearing aren't super problem prone, if it's not making noise or being a issue I'd leave them. But if you got a press and know what you are doing, then I guess you could take the snout apart and do it.
