Coolant Flush

It's a 2001 chevy Venture Warner brothers van 3.4 I have sludge and slime on radiator cap (lots of it) and coolant return tank, so I want to flush it without diving under and getting plugs in the block out car has 250,000 miles. Do I want to use a flush or just plain water? I am figuring drain radiator remove t-stat and just flush away. I think the mechanic may may mixed dexicool with green. Any suggestions?

Thanks

first off the 3.4 is junk from the factory. second if you really want to remove all the sludge it will take (maybe) 10 flushes to clear it all out. i use water when i do a flush and it works good.

Yeah, I know but this is just used for back-up when car is down or if I have to haul something that does not fit in van (Dryer, Garden Supplies etc.)
