Continue with SC or go Turbo?

I just want everything to be as reliable and safe as possoible. The 90's are already installed in the car so that's why I put those.
As far as the bigger cam goes. Won't that put more stress on the car overall and my gas mileage will go down.
If I go VS I've basically upgraded more things that needed to be and it will still have power be safe.

I'm really new to all the cam stuff so I'm just looking for all your guys input which has been great so far! :)

Oh and is the double roller a good idea? Or not needed
 


double roller would eliminate the dampener which is what wears on the stock chains then nukes the chain.

But the double is expensive considering you need the crank gear machined and a machined oil pump cover.

But that'd be the safest way.

All of these cams are so small they wont things too much.

blue will shortly claim he somehow got 30 MPG with his XP.

And will then say its all in the tune.
 
In my tuned XP/3.1" setup, I saw over 30 mpg's.

But it was all in the tune. It also had headers...and a XP Cam...and a tune.

Plus, it was tuned. And had a 3.1". And other supporting mods. But ya, 30+ mpg's.

Sh1t Matt...I see high 20's low 30's with my build now...I got 26-28 driving 80-90 to St. Louis a few weeks ago to buy my slicks. Also...to utilize the double roller...you must delete the balance shaft. I ran 90's on my XP and a stock chain/dampner...granted if you go with a Double Roller...you won't have to worry about it eating up the dampner like it did in mine in 40K. A XP or S1X aren't THAT much rougher...granted the VS is really tiny. I DD'd my car too...and loved it. Then...I maned up and bought a huge cam...and I still drive this thing every couple days...and its a blast when it works right :p
 
So basically I shouldn't bother with the VS? Between the 2 ill see way better gains with the XP over the VS but yet sill have a good DD?
If that's the case what are the mandatory upgrades to run the XP and what are a good idea but not mandatory?
Edit: can I use my 90 springs? I reallly don't want to change them out again lol

Or maybe I just go with the S1X. Bigger than the VS not quite as big as the XP.
Sounds like a pretty good in between choice
 
S1X is a proven cam. I used #90 springs and retainers on my XP setup...no problems. Only issue...I didn't have a double roller...and since your going with that...you won't have to worry. Plus, the XP sounds better...and moves the powerband higher, where these cars lack power.
 


I think you've convinced me on the XP.. they do sound way better compared to the clips from the S1X.

Now my concern is those issues ZZP posted on there site under the XP saying people complained about it chewing up the valve seals? how do i avoid this issue?

ok sounds good, so looks like i'll be taking those springs out after all lol.
You mentioned ls7 lifters... are they necessary could i just get new stock ones or might i have to get those comp cam ones off zzp?
 
LS7 OEM lifters are the same as the ones in your car right now.

Just try and find a better price than $120 + shipping for a set of lifters.

Comp cam ones from ZZP will be noisy. LS7 will be nice and quiet...
 
the "LS-7" lifters as are used on a large amount of GM cars, so they would be an OEM replacement, not a performance lifter as mentioned. Stay away from the comp cam ones if possible. If you want a proper XP cam setup, go with the double roller and 125/130lb springs(this will allow you to rev the motor safely to use powerband offered from the XP). While you can use the 90# springs, you risk valve float and reduced power. You have to keep in mind the more power you make the stronger springs you need. Most people that suggest the LS6/90lb springs dont know what valve float feels like, and lose power reving higher. This has been dyno proven time and time again. Rising boost numbers past 5800 RPMs is a common sign of a weak spring.

FYI sound is never a good reason to choose one cam over the other. Your trans gearing and the rest of the setup should be the deciding factor.

All we have is final drive, and thats not exactly easily adjustable...

Theres almost no difference between the S1X and XP performance wise... so yeah, sound would become a factor.

Sinister do you have a dyno graph for a XP cam that actually shows engine speed?
