Considering towing a cargo trailer - good idea?

I am in th eprocess of an interstate move - NY to Florida. I am considering installing a hitch, and towing a small 4' x 8' cargo trailer to my supercharged 2005 GTP.

My car runs great, i have a reduced size pulley, cold air intake and performance PCM. o, and 120,000 miles.

Has anyone towed anything with a GTP? Any ideas as to whether its a good idea to hook a trailer up to my aging GTP?

Any advice or stories of personal experience is welcome.
thanks

well he does have the hardend 4th gear shaft, so may be ok.

but on a side note, you dont got enough mods to drop pulley sizes yet, i hope the car dont go boom on you.

So I have been told - but ive had the smaller pulley on the car now for about 80,ooo miles. No problems.

So I shouldnt be worried about towing a small cargo trailer with a supercharger?

Not something I would do nor recommend. But plenty of people do it with these cars all the time. But I would make sure to give yourself plenty of time for the drive. You don't want to be pushing the car and driving 80mph. Take it slow and easy. Don't run the AC. And watch the engine and transmission temps. I would bet if you are not running a tranny cooler that you will start pushing 220°F after a couple hours. Anything over 215° and I would shut it down, lift the hood, and let it cool off for an hour or so. I think towing is hardest on the tranny.

Wouldn't hurt to do a pan drop to replace the tranny filter and put in fresh fluid before the trip either.

I tow all the time... I have even towed a few full sized cars with my GTP... Thing is a towing machine!

Trans temps are your biggest worry... if your car is in good shape, and you are towing less than 3klbs, you should be fine.

The 4th gear thing is scary... I always worked my car into 4th slow and easy... and I would not put it in 4th unless I was going 65+mph.

So what ever became of your towing story. I am searching the forums now for threads regarding towing. It will be a small trailer, trailer has a max capacity of 1500lbs but usually don't load more than 500lbs on it. I tow the trailer usually behind my Fiero with a 2.8 N/A V6 5spd. What hitch did you end up getting and where did you pick it up.

P.S. Nice to see a familiar face Darkhorizon.
