Considering a 05 or newer GP

This is my first post here and I'm really looking for info on the 05 or newer GP. I currently have a 97 Bonneville and will most likely be upgrading in the next few months. My main concern is the UIM on the 3.8L, the series II was prone to failure. Has the problem been fixed in the series III? Also, were GPs offered with other V6s in this vintage? Are there any other common problems to look out/be aware of?
