There's some pretty (pardon me) but G@y law's where i'm living... A friend of mine drive a 06 Ford F-150 and his tail's are tinted (to the darkness i've wanted mine) and both him and his girlfriend have been pulled over and given $25 tickets over the tint, I'm going to tint drak but not pitch black, it's hard to explain (i'll be tinting my front corner lights too)
if your planning on tinting them your self,
when you go light with VHT, you get a cherry look to them, not to dark at all, but not stock either anymore. find some rattle can clear coat, spray it on 4 or 5 coats, let it dry, wet sand it smooth, and then buff with compound, this can be done by hand but a buffer will make quick work of it.
dont go crazy it gets darker as it drys.
stock taped off sanded cleaned/prepped.
one coat, note the spray on the tape where the lic plate goes. its light looking but does a lot.
2 coats VHT, with 5 coats of clear, not sanded, so its kinda a matte finish.
one good coat may be what your after.
this is what the 2 coats and 5 coats of clear all finished looks like.
