Hy guys, i own a 97 gtp with minor mods an 174k on it, run a strong 14.70 on the quater mile but has some major rust issue in the trunk (shock tower) and a 98 wich as 340k but is as clean as a brand new but the tranny just died this week end.i'm planning on a complete swap (put the 97 engine and trans in the 98)what kind of problems should i encounter during the swap ? i know there's major difference between the 97 and 98 tranny but i'll swap everything even the pcm
 


The complete subframe and mecanic is gonna be swap but heard the 97 tranny work with a cable (kick down cable) while the 98 is full electronic ???
 
no. the 97 is actually vacuum powered. If you look you will see a vacuum line running to the trans. the 98 is electronic. I don't believe you need the sub-frame...unless that is how your pulling the motor and trans like that.
 
Fast and easy, just drop the subframe off with the complete kit and back into the 98, also plan on installing headers while having good acces on everything

Nope, but close.

97-02 all have the same 4T65e HD for the GTP

97 "GT" was the only year that came with the 4t60e which was vacuum operated.

If the swap is GTP to GTP, everything is the same really, except a few small things. I'd run the 98 PCM if the 98 is a GTP.
 


see...its always the small details I miss lol. next time put GTP in 40 font with red highlights and underline lol

from gtp 97 to gtp 98 but why keep the 98 pcm ? are they any better for further tuning ? think i remember the 97 cannot be tune, i'm i right ?
