Complete Audio Redo (Well Somewhat) Help!

Hey guys.

Alright. Big Mama is starting to show her age. My speakers are all going out and sound bad. My stock head unit is going out also. Display goes out and the CD part doesn't always play. So I'm going to replace the front 5x1/4 speakers and rear 6x9s. I'm thinking of getting a sub also.

Here's the brands I'm thinking of for the speakers/sub:
JL Audio
Infinity
Rockford Fosgate

Which is the best of those?

I need a new head unit and want one to play my iPod with. That shouldn't be too hard. But my 99 has the steering wheel controls. Can they still be hooked up to a new head unit?

Thanks for the help!

Go to your local audio store and listen with some cd's you like.

But don't expect them to sound nearly as good. No speakers do if you install them in the same spot.

Then buy the ones you like the most.

I always use Apline head units and JL speakers all the way around, but that's just my personal preference

I got infinity's front and back in my car and they sound great... but you would definitely need to get some kind of sub with it cause there not meant to play lows.

new kenwood excellon head unit. its the same tech as apline but cheaper. supports SWI and better than the factory amp in our cars

This is all good advice guys. Thanks. But now my issue is that my rear speaker wires are gone. IDK where they went. Can't seem to find them in the back. What to do?

i did this upgrade in my 97 GTP , settling on rear speakers and a sub was easy. but where i ran into problems was with the front speakers. i just couldnt get the sound out them that i wanted. i tried 2 different sets of speakers , before settling on a set of 5 1/4" Component Speakers. they came with their own crossovers . but you need some power to drive them. the difference in sound was like night and day.

If I take my GP to an audio shop, do you think they could find the speaker wires that re gone in the back or am I just gonna be without rear shelf speakers?

If you were to setup your audio system correctly then rear speakers are out of the question unless you use some specific processing techniques. Otherwise, they just mudddy the stage. My vote is to go without them. Add something up front, throw in a subwoofer (sealed facing the cabin is my preference), and call it a day. If you want ported or bandpassed then to get a good quality setup takes a lot of time testing and then you have to build a specific box for a specific driver. If you want it to go boom boom boom...just throw in a bazooka tube and call it a day ;) They sound decent without the worry or hassle.

Im sure they could find them. but honestly im a little confused how they went missing in the first place. I would get in your trunk with a flashlight and find them, shouldn't be to difficult. As for the rear deck speakers, go ahead and replace them, especially if your not going to include a subwoofer. A good pair of 6x9's will give you much better bass output then just a pair of 5 1/2's upfront. I have always been a huge fan of infinity's. I run a par of component 6.5s upfront and a pair of 6x9's in the deck and a pair of 12's in the trunk. Im a huge fan of audio quality and I love the clarity of my system. Good speakers at a good price, choose infinity. Let me know if you need any more help!
