• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Compjter nerds, need a hand diagnosing my laptop

Last night scanning with HPT it gave me an odd error. Call it a technical difficulty. Just wouldn't connect.

This morning I remote into work and all is going well. Then I get a nice little pop up "Hard Failure". Had to crash out via power off, and it won't reboot. Tries to consider windows, hits a millisecond BSD and back to how to boot. (ie normal, safe etc).

Pulled the HD out in trying to diagnose and hooked up with a SATA to USB adapter to the desktop. Here's what she does...

I'd like to conclude that most likely ....that's a DOA HD.

New drive time. Is that a laptop HD, well now that you have access to it, time to start pulling files. Those fresh installs of Windows, after tweaking, are the BIZ

Looked up the old guy. Fijitsu 160gb Sata II. Wonder if any of the local places have an SII. I doubt the pc would recognize newer Sata's? Anyone tell me different?

A Dell Inspiron 1545, Model PP41L I know..it's old..it works like a champ though.

I've had to replace a couple of those before, if its any consolation. You should be able to find a drive(BestBuy), but yeah it looks like it will support 2 or 3.
SATA 3 Gbit/s is backward compatible with SATA 1.5 Gbit/s.[SUP][9](WIKI)[/SUP]

bill you fix it yet! and make sure you put a drill bit throught that drive for extra security when you toss it

I like taking the drive cover off then plug it in, watch it spin...WHOOPeee. then take a nail and touch the platters, makes a wack sound.....wear your OSHA safetys

Try freezing the drive for 15 minutes and plug it in externally and grab your ****.

Otherwise if nothing still your SOL, unless you pay for data recovery services.

I have a Spare 500gb floatin' around. Do you want it?

I tried freezing...no luck. And also no data to be lost. Only thing I kept on it that I even remotely cared about is the tuning folder that I have. Bins, software, info etc. All that is backed up on about 5 different people's pc's and a flash drive I recently picked up...plus my own desktop.

Too late. After work, I nabbed a $50 drive from Bestbuy (original drive was 160gig, new is 250gig and I don't leave much on there, so no need to spend real money on a bigger drive.

OS loaded right up like a champ (thanks for the help Slick), and I was using it last night to help a friend recover data off her DOA laptop's harddrive.

Thanks again for all the help guys.. Lappy is back up and running like a champ.
