Comments Wanted - 05 Comp G Service Stability/Service Traction

Hello all-

I am looking for some comments relating to a 2005 GTP Comp G. I purchased my car October of 2009 and since have had the "Service Traction System" & Service Stability System" illumination lights come on at least 10 times. This only happens at start up and all it does is flash these lights in my DIC and turn of traction control. Then if I turn the car off . . . the lights are gone.

I have taken my car to the dealer for this issue every time. Initially there were a number of other issues they have since been able to fix but not this one. The first issues were - my car wouldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd it would simply bounce off the rev limiter. I also had twice where my vehicle spuddered out on me in 2nd gear would say "reduced engine power" and 10 seconds later shut down and wouldn't start for about 10 minutes. After that it would start but run like hell. Had to have it towed to the dealer twice.

Lucky for me I bought the car GM Certified so I haven't paid a dime for the work but here is what they replaced so far . . . catalytic converters, boost control pressure sensor?, all intake hoses to/from supercharger, 1 or 2 fuel injectors, spark plug wire or two, steering shaft, left rear wheel bearing, automatic climate control unit, reflashed pcm - then eventually replaced, traction/stability/etc module, all wiring/connectors to and from traction/stability module.

All issues are fixed except the traction/stability problem. Last I heard from the service manager was the GM Tech he spoke with said "they only made a couple hundred or couple thousand cars optioned that way and we don't know what the cause is". The service manager said that's not gonna work and eventually convinced them to look further into the problem.

So . . . within the next 24 to 48 hours they are sending out a GM district specialist to look at my car. Please post your feedback if any and if you have had this similar problem. I am very interested to hear your responses.

Thanks!

Just talked to the dealer and the district specialist will be there tomorrow morning. Hopefully I will know more then and I will keep you all posted.

Looking through a number of posts here and on other sites it appears this is common or at least more common than GM is stating. I'm thinking it relates to the comp g package but maybe not. Either way the symptoms that are most common to mine are a hessitation at time with acceleration & power, almost like the car acts different at times. But I can start it up and it works just fine the next time. Also, the car is difficult to start at times. RPMs stay low then jump and sometimes when I try to remote start it won't start, just cranks.

The dealer thinks its an error when the EBCM doesn't receive an rpm input after 1 second of the engine being started. This causes the systems to malfunction as the traction control works by shutting down power to the motor. They tell me though that since it's just for a second and happens so irregularly they don't know what the issue is.

The only symptom I have had which is close is a shift issue but mine only ocurs randomly at WOT. If you have fixed that please let me know which one of the fixes did it. Other then that sounds like your getting a new car for the price :P

Mine still will not shift at wot sometimes but it's only maybe once a month if that . . . certainly not something I'm going to complain about as it simply hits the limiter a couple times and then will eventually shift. My initial problem was it wouldn't shift at all until I let off the gas.

They also replaced the vehicle speed sensor too, so the initial shift problem could have been fixed by that or the reflash of the pcm I think.

As for a code I believe its DTC C0236 - dealer gave me a copy service doc #PIC3975A which has info relating to this issue.

i own a 2007 grand prix gxp. i purchased the vehicle in October of this year and just last week when i would turn my car on, my DIC displays service stability system/service traction control/ service abs system. It also triggers the abs light on my dash and my traction control light on my dash. This does not happen every time i turn my car on. id say probably about 70 percent of the time. my car feels fine and i have had no problems with its performance whatsoever. I have read the manual and all it says for each problem is to get the car serviced. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

Bump I know this thread is a little old but my wifes gp gxp just started doing this this morning . When she starts the car the traction and stability shut off as well as showing the service stability/traction control system, any thoughts?..has never happend before now

My car does the stability control, abs, service thing when I start the car about 45% of the time. Sometimes I can feel the abs trying to kick in when I brake. I think I'll take it to the dealer and see what they have to say. I'll update.

Hey guys interesting to see this come back to life. I can report that my car spent over a month in service and GM attempted about 5 different fixes for the problem until they eventually gave up and said they couldn't do anything more. Car was still acting up and they told me it was likely a "glitch" in the computer which they had already replaced once. Told me they would send the case to engineering to look into but it wasn't a priority and likely nothing would ever happen.

I gave up on the car and GM so I sold it a couple months ago and ordered a new Mustang 5.0. Its a shame because I really loved the car. I hope this isn't the case for you guys but it seems GM doesn't know how to or care to make an effort to fix. If I ever hear back from them with a resolution or update I will be sure to post it here.

I own the exact same car with same symptoms. Other than the lights, car runs fine, performs flawlessly. I do believe I felt the ABS kick in when applying the brakes for a second the other day.
Anyone ever get any answers? Ive seen the "check the connections" several times but have no clue where to look for these? Anyone have a link to this info?
Thanks in advance...
