Cold Weather and Speakers

Well its all about preference. Sealed is definitely the way to go for sq. No ported box will get the same kind of punchy tight bass you can get out of an optimum sealed enclosure. However i like a combination of SQ and SPL so I run custom built ported enclosures designed for the subs i run and the car i run them in. Ive gotten pretty lucky since the owner of the audio shop i buy from owns a Grand Prix and has built many boxes and designs for his so he knows the dynamics of my car quite well. Plus hes interested in my box designs since most of the ones I come up with are things he hasn't seen before. For SPL the guys i'm having build my box hold a few world championships in DB-drags. They also have won quite a few SQ competitions in Missouri so i think the box they build will be just fine for my taste.
 


Never had an issue with my Soundsplinter. (TC sounds made)

Fourth order bandpass would work well if you had the patients to design and build one.
 
I'm a fan of sealed, and I've got mine rear firing, and that's what sounds best for me.. Have tried both ways.
 
One note wonders?...ported. It's not fun trying to design a ported to match the cabin gain in a vehicle. My sub is 60 and down. Wave length has a great deal to do with your experience but there's more to subs than just placement. The strongest or weakest link in a system is the mids ability to match the subwoofer. Match the mids right and you'll be highly impressed.

I believe the LMS 5400 is the hands down best sub for the SQ enthusiast but it costs a grand, and you need 2-4 dependin on the size of the room.

I love your install, I was always thinking it had to be fiberglass to fit that location but you proved me wrong
 
not really :D I don't have the tools anymore :/

That guy moved. I cut out the pocket from the molded carpet and built that out using cardboard. Then I applied my fiberglass over top. I recommend the woven fiber sheets vs. the random stuff. Much cleaner to work with. I attached the box to a face plate. The face plate was made after using cardboard to create a template of the area. It's 3/4 mdf left over from another project that was going at the same time.
