Cold problems

-30 degree weather won't let my car start. battery is drained and will hardly turn over. i could fix this if i could get the hood open. the hood latch lever inside the car by the emergency/parking brake won't budge. kinda like it was never meant to move, so how can i get this dang hood open without destroying my car?

mine is having the exact same problem other then the not running part. can anyone help us with this problem? ive gotten the hood open after pulling it in a heated garage for sometime. i put penetrating oil on the hood latch but i froze right back up. help please

my car says to put it in a garage....seriously its freakin cold.....29* is our high today. suppossed to be really cold rest of the week. your car will luv u for it.

29* cold? I was working out side today and it was -13* -30* with windchill.

yeah well heated garage is out of the picture for me. so its probably frozen? maybe ill pop it in neutral and put some space heaters by the car, where should i focus the heat?

Ive seen standard block heaters that heat the engine bay enough to stop that problem
its also a off the wall idead but maybe some kind of weather proof heating blanket

whats causing that damn latch to freeze up. ya i know cold but i thawed it out and it froze again. has anyone found a fix for this? im going back to college friday and id like to be able to consistantly be able to get under my hood before i go back

Probably water. Thawing it out won't do any good until you get the water out whatever is freezing. Thaw it out again and give it a good coating of WD-40.

I had the exact same problem. The battery was dead when I went to start the car the other morning. 'No problem', I thought, 'I'll just pop the hood give the battery a charge'. Hood frozen :th_angry-teeth: key stuck in ignition. What I did was remove the front grill and pop the hood latch with a screw driver. Once the battery charged, the car started, and once it was warm the hood latch un-froze.

It is always recommended that if you live in a climate with -30º temperatures you should run a block heater. A frozen latch and dead battery could be the least of your problems.

I thawed it out reall good and then soaked it down with penatrating oil and i still cant get the damn thing to work like its supposed to
