Cold Air Intake Problems.... HELP???

Yea i just noticed that sabrewings i like that setup a lot how it clips in instead of the zzp bungee tie down thing (hah) Do you think i will be able to make it work without moving my coolant tank??? I know the tanks dont cost much but i am cheap and lazy what can i say....
 


This is how my open cone setup looks with the blazer pcm tray. (Note: this is on a 99 GTP, so your setup might be a bit different)

i wanted the added security of actually holding the pcm tray down so i used some self tapping screws

its a little off kilter, but it doesn't hit anything, hasn't gotten dirty, and hasn't moved an inch

That looks awesome.... but doesnt answer my question i sorry to say lol because i have a 97 my coolant tank is in that area and im trying to figure out if that hold down you have will work with or i can modify it so that it will fit there without moving the tank to where yours is now on the passenger side strut tower. But the pictures are great and i appreciate the input!!
 
Ok.... i got everything squared away. I bought the relocation coolant tank and the pcm mount and installed my intake. I ended up not even using the coolant tank and left the factory one and fabricated up a mount to the side of the tank. It looke pretty clean ill post pictures if i can. Except now i am not even happy with the way my intake sounds!!! I dont know if something is wrong or if this is just normal. I replaced my upper and lower intake gaskets and put the intake on it while i was under the hood. Every time i start it up now i get this god awful air noise that sounds like a really bad vacuum leak. I put my ear right next to the intake and thats what it is. I have put intakes like this on cars before and heard many many of them and have never heard anything like this. After a few minutes of warm up time it sounds like a normal intake should sound. Does anybody have any idea what is going on here? Or do i have to deal with this embarressment of a noise when i start my car around people.....
 
This is a PCM tray that I found. You do have to move your overflow tank, but it does look like it will protect the PCM in the long run. It all depends if you want to spend the money or not. Here is the link:

.....lol i already have a pcm tray. thats what i used in my fabrication i trimmed it down and made it fit then bolted it to the side of the overflow tank which was enough to clear my filter. i was mainly posting because the sound im getting at cold start seems much pitchier than i had expected it to be.
 
I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with the PCM overheating after relocation from adding in air intake? My girlfriend's father was concerned that because I added the K&N air intake and took out the stock air box, the PCM would get too hot saying that the stock air box helps cool the PCM and thats why they mounted it in there. Currently I have the PCM zip tied down to the sheet metal in the fender well with part of the stock airbox used as a cover to help deflect water and what not. Should I be concerned about overheating of the PCM or moisture getting in the connectors? My Colorado has a PCM thats stock mounted in the open so I didn't think it would be an issue and figured that the PCM in the airbox on her GP was just another weird quirk by some engineeer at GM. I do think I'm going to get one of the trays to mount it better as the zip ties and bungee cord I use to hold the plastic of the airbox down looks cheesy. Sounds like some of you have been using a setup with the PCM in the open without any issues. Any thoughts? :th_scratchhead:

I just called Chevy in my area and talked to a friend of mine in the service department and told me that the PCM in in the air box is most likely just where GM decided to mount it. He also said that the PCM's heatsink is more than adequate to keep the PCM cool regardless of where its mounted. Any experiences or thoughts from all you would be greatly appreciated to verify this and make sure I'm not going to hurt anything with the PCM. Thanks...
 


S-10s used a very similar style PCM (on the outside it looks identical) to ours and theirs was sitting by the fuse box in open air.
