Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Coilover Confessional

These are designed to go way low. I designed this set up so the strut is adjusted and not the spring for the height. So there would be no need to cut the strut rod.

Edit* - Or way high, should have about 6" of adjustability.

the only major design flaw's i see with coilovers for these cars, is that they are too damn long. We need struts that are 2'' shorter, and use a 2peice jam nut.. Not 1 with a set screw.

BlownBigBlock (who just sold a set of coils) Had the best DIY set I've seen period. Loved his Top mount setup, and the Strange Coil over kit for a mustang... I'd love to duplicate his setup, but the limiting factor is that they only max out so far... That's were my statement of the strut body's being 2'' smaller would come into play.

If coilover's were made to go WAY lower than they already do. You could count me in on buying a set, as long as their well thought out, and could possibly have a camber adjustable top plate.
Woohoo I bought his set of coilovers. Still waiting on them but I'm so pumped. IMO they look better than helds or intense. They also have the helper springs and sealed bearings, but yes, the top mounts are very nice!

if you EVER want to sell those after you have your fun, you Let me know! (if this other guy make's good coilovers, i'll be patiently waiting for prototypes, and could buy thoese if they appeal to me)

i wanted them in the worst way, but i just couldn't get that kind of money together to buy them. Nice seeing that they went to someone who will appreciate the build quality.

Yeah, that has been done before, but you dont have much clearance to go down with the strut body it's self before smashing into the CV.. there's a Lexus coilover that are like that, but have to be modded slightly to fit the grand prix application.. (Kuntzie was the one doing that) not worth doing... I've been all over that before..

just make a set that the strut body is SHORTER and the strut rod LONGER than what are offered now, and you'll have bites.

I talked to Koni once upon a time, they can make custom inserts for your application, it costs a few pennies, but you can shorten the shaft roughly 1.25" and the body by 1.25". Add them to some bodies and away you go.

Your other problem as Bakerdd mentioned, when you go that low, your axles will hate their lives, probably fail so quickly its not worth it.

This would be great, if somebody would try it out and tweak it till it's perfect.

I would, but i don't have fab skills at all. F**k i can barely glue paper together and make it look good.

as for geometry, and blowing axles twice a week lol... How thick of a spacer could you use (with a stock hood) to get some* of your axle geometry back.

I wish I knew/thought of that when I got mine rebuilt. I would've gotten the housings shortened for sure.

IIRC I've got .25" spacers top and bottom of the mounts right now, I may be able to add a couple of washers in there. I'll find out this weekend.

With these cars you need a huge drop to get to that even fender line look, to go further requires some modifications outside of just the struts. Your LCA mounts should be stronger, unless you can find balljoints that help correct the LCA's angle. Axle angles is another issue, difficult to correct.

If you guys wanted the lowness, I could get you there with this setup. Now for axle geometry, thats on you because you wanted to go that low in the first place. Im not making these coilovers to slam the car, I am making them to go stiffer, but these coilovers will have the adjustability to go that low without modifying the strut rod and strut tube.

it would be nice to use inverted shocks ive seen around on summit, we could get way better with travel and such before the axles would go up at a angle. As far as being slammed, i just dont bother, its my DD and smaking the subframe on **** is not my idea of fun

Dalton (Killerspeed101) is at the nicest "dropped" height, i've seen on a 97-03 gp. I just feel if you could go a tad lower than that, it would look tits

but then again, if we make coils to go that low, you'd see more and more stanced grandprixs. Which is what I actually wanna do... ever since i saw David's (bakardd) thread on here and on S/W
