Coil pack nightmare!!!

Well, I got new coil packs and ICM. One bolt broke in the plate below it. I was trying to get it out and the plate broke. Upper left hand bolt (looking towards the car). I also have 2 other bolts that broke in the plate too.

I have a mounting plate for the ICM off an Alero. Can I fit it onto the spot where the old plate is? Do I need to get a new plate? Are there any work-arounds? I don't want to wait another 2 weeks for a part from Ebay. Ugh! I hope someone has a suggestion. I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP.

Yea looks like you'll want a new mount along with the plate.

Luckily I don't throw out old parts! I junked a V6 Camaro awhile back and kept the coil packs and mounting plate! The 3 raised parts on the plate line up perfectly with the grounding points on the bracket with the Grand Prix!!!

However...... I don't have access to a welder and need to secure the plate to the bracket. I've tried JB Kwik Weld and it doesn't stick even after setting overnight. It's very cold here (-17c) but warming up tomorrow. Does anyone have any ideas of a product that will secure the plate to the bracket on the car (metal to metal)?

Thank you for the offer. I luckily found a plate from my old Camaro I junked awhile back.
 


On the GTP there isn't any holes to put the bolts into. The plate broke and in the picture above you will see the 3 grounding points. Here's a pic of the new plate:

You can see that the 3 riveted spots line up perfectly with the grounding points in the picture above on the bracket. My issue is sticking the metal together without welding!
 
That's a first time that I see the bracket without the holes. IMO I would get a new bracket with the holes already there.. Like you said getting a good weld to hold or JB weld to stick is going to be a pain in the ass! And if you ever have to remove the plate that's another issue down the road.

Or you could drill and tap for the holes but idk what tools you have available
 
I don't have a tap set. I don't have access to a welder. To get the car to a shop means I would have to tow it. JB Weld isn't working. When I took off the old ICM and coil packs the bolts basically disintegrated. And naturally the steel bolts fused to the aluminum plate and all broke inside the plate. Then the plate itself broke so that's why I'm using this other plate.

This is how it is on the car, minus the plate. The 3 squares are the grounding points on the plate. There's nothing underneath them. At least when I ran my hand under the bracket there weren't any bolts sticking out. I had the bracket off the car when I did my LIM gasket last month and didn't see any bolts. I think it is spot welded on the bracket. I heard that it's only the early model GTP's that have this set up and in 2001 they changed it. The GT's don't have this set up either. So even if you sent me a plate, I'd have no way of mounting it.

Not sure what year had that particular bracket but all the brackets will bolt up no matter the year.. So I could pull you one of the newer brackets similar to what I run as well as what you have.. Where the 3 bolts are held by 3 nuts underneath the plate and it'll will still have the plate attached to it just in case so all you have to do is remove your old bracket and throw the new set up on. No need for welding. No need for a expensive shop fix.
 
Well, it seems the guys at NAPA agreed that JB Weld sucks. I've never had luck with it before and now I know it's junk. I got a metal epoxy which is actually for what I'm doing and supposed to hold metal to metal well and securely. I'll give it a try tomorrow.
