Code 1404

Howdy folks.
I had code 1404 come up on my car today so I pulled the EGR and to look it over. It looks nearly new with hardly any carbon build up on it. The plunger moves free without any resistance at all. ( I realize it may still be bad ) After some research I came across this http://engine-codes.com/p1404_pontiac.html Can someone elaborate a little more about the reprogramming the PCM. I assume this has to be done at a shop? Or dealership ? Ive been searching the multitude of threads on codes but cant seem to find an answer for this particular problem. I forgot to mention Ive only had my car for 2 weeks so Im still learning about it and unfortunately I do not have any records of previous maintenance or issues its had, if any. The car runs great but I would like to nip this in the butt before it gets worse.

that would only be if there was tsb for your car to have updated programming, not the case here.

check the wires to its plug, if the insulation is damaged and you see bare wire, thats the issue right there.

then theres always its just gone bad. they are cheap at the junk yard to swap out.

or if need be i got one for sale in the for sale section here.
