Clicking when starting...getting annoying

2005 pontiac grand prix, brand new battery and the alternator is good. Sometimes it starts right up no problems. Other times it repeatedly clicks, and when i try it again starts right up no problems...Solenoid contacts dirty? Just had a nice thick ground cable added from battery to frame. Haven't had time to bring it to my dads to jack it up and check. Wanted some insights first.

Clicking as in like a dead battery? I'd check and make sure all the cables are clean and tight. Even the slightest bit of corrosion or looseness on these cars can make them do strange things. Check the wires at the starter and the grounds on the transmission housing as well.

Started with old battery, new one worked for a while then same thing. Cleaned and tightened cables. Grounds are tight

what goods a large thick ground cable going to the frame going to do to make sure the engine block is able to get the 150-200 amps the starter requires?

that cable is doing nothing as its the cable from the battery to the bellhousing stud (near the starter) that handles the ground side current for the starter.

there's more than a few things it can be, whats voltage drop across the power lead when its clicking? how many miles/starts? (if its started 2-4+ times per day for the last 11 years....yeah starter may be worn tha **** out.....)
