The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
Mileage?
Modifications?
Recent maintenance?
Scan the PCM to see if any codes pop up, first. React accordingly. Parts stores do this for free.
The following should help:
Catalytic converter: clogs at about 150,000 miles
Fuel filter: Change every 30,000 miles
Intake filter: Change every 30,000 miles
Pull and inspect sparkplugs and their gaps. Should be 0.60
Stock sparkplugs are good for 100,000 miles. Replace with stock iridium plugs.
Ensure that all vacuum lines are connected and no connections hav dry-rotted.
Clean throttlebody butterfly plate with throttlebody cleaner, a rag, and toothbrush. Do not spray into intake.
Clean mass airflow sensor with MAF sensor spray. Spray only, do not touch.
I could look at it for you tom if your not busy I work in minster and that's not to far for you. I can bring my scanner. I get off at 3 if your interested.
Sorry I just got back on here. There's about 160,000 on the motor... 230,xxx on the body. The only mod is a CAI... It only does it after the engine has warmed up a little bit... Just put another trans in it in may.
And it only does it when the car is warmed up and I've driven it for a while. How much did getting the tcc fixed cost? I know it will vary from shop to shop, but I'm just trying to figure out a ballpark figure.
No, not yet.... I just had a used trans put in back in may.... Oye... and to top it off its a 97 vac trans.... I should of had them just rebuild it when it was in the shop the first time...
If it's like the problem I had, it would surge/hesitate between 2-3K RPM under light acceleration/engine load. I was told it was probably a TCC solenoid so I lived with it. I found a post on here or one of the other forums and it said to disconnect the battery(both cables) and the short them together for about 30 minutes. This resets the PCM and then after you hook up the battery again the PCM will relean your driving. It fixed my problem completely. It's an easy quick(and free) thing to try.
its usually more the sensor that controls lock up of the torque converter. it lets the trans lock and un lock, repeatedly. untill you give it more gas or let off it.
its in the side cover of the trans and can be changed with out removing the trans.
i'd go to a trans shop, if need be pay for a est to get it scanned. at least that way you know what your dealing with. from my own personal experience you dont want to let this go for to long.
Alright, I think I'll reset the PCM and see if it comes back, there might just be a possible rebuild in my gt's transmission's future. The shop I brought it to only charged $250 to put a trans in and it's $1000 for a rebuild....
When I reset mine, it came back about a month later. I reset it again and it hasn't returned. That was over a year ago. It's a free thing to do so it's worth a shot.
Oook. Well, I tried reseting the PCM... No luck... Called my mechanic, he drove it, said the exhaust smelt like the car was running lean, checked the MAF... Dirt galore..... Maybe because about a week ago I found my open cone laying in the engine bay detached from the PVC pipe.... Ooops. Well, it runs a lot better now... Still a little bit of a hesitation/chug, but definitely a lot better than it was... Now I don't know how to completely get rid of it... My mechanic is busy and doesn't have time to really work on it.
Alright... Well, I got a new MAF sensor.... and it still does it. And I literally just noticed something when I was driving it. When I put my car in park I'm getting a rough idle. It idles at about 750 rpms and the tach doesnt really bounce but just has a rough feel to it. Maybe TPS?
