• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

I come home from work today, there are two packages sitting on my doorstep. I kinda think about it but I cant really recall what they may be. So I scoop them up and get inside. I proceed to open them and what do I find? Yeah baby! My Roller Rockers and my Wideband O2 kit. Woot Wooot.

Oh wow that is Great..:)
But i think maybe you should send them over here so that i can test these out for you first...:D
I mean after all i am just looking out for you
what if you did all this work
just to find out you are not pleased  J/K

Is nice to have a sweet mod show up at the door Congrats.

You know, we must think alike or something, cause the very first and I MEAN the VERY first thought in my head after opening up the box and seeing what it was, was I needed to do just as you suggested. In fact I was running around looking for a packing slip and your address just so I could set them back out on the doorstep for pick up. :D

98GP, I'll be talking about that in due time (not trying to secretive or or anything, just putting together a write up) and showing my new toy off. I will say this. I have everything here in my hand for this Wideband and I spent probably not much more than $150 if that. So stay tuned. Hahahah, get it, stay 'tuned', 'Wideband'. Geeesh, I crack myself up.

Well the reason why I was asking is because If you know how to install them, I'd really appreciate some help installing mine! I've got a friend who can do it for me, but he lives in Houston and getting him up here is quite challenging.

Nice responce Scott lol hahaah
now i will be waiting at the door for my package :p:p

Will be great to see the write up on this though and
enjoy the great mods.

great Job scotty! why arent they on the car yet? its been a day

Haha. Well, Im still waiting on my pushrods to show up and I still need to find a set of springs then I'll need to get a set of retainers, locks, seals and so on.

Which brings me to my next question:

1. Do I need a set of new pedestals with these rockers?
2. Should I replace my lifters? If so, whats everyones take on the Comp Cams lifters? Ive heard some say they are noisier and one should stay with OEM lifters.

hmmm... well what roller rockers did you end up with? and they didnt come with different pedestals?

who needs pushrods? use mcdonald's straws! :D

I got 1.7 Rollers and no they didnt come with different pedestals. I bought them used, though they are in excellent shape. I sent an email to the seller to see if they have any pedestals. Franky, I feel I got a great deal on them so I'll be okay if I have to buy new pedestals.

As for the pushrods, well I just wanted something harder in there, a bit more wear resistant and something that wouldnt flex or bend as much under normal use. The lifters, I just want to do all I can to prevent valve float, though admittedly, with 1.7's Im sure thats not going to be a huge issue. But Id rather be safe than sorry and have parts that are a tad more durable. Furthermore, Im going to be in it that far, it aint that much more work to pull those lifters out and slide some new ones in.

Im in the process right now in fact. I just went out and tested the electronics and all is good there. I just have to put together the harness for the sensor and find a way to run it into the cabin.

And on my roller rockers with no pedestals. Well they are shaft mount and require no pedestals. How about that, weight savings. That should shave a whole 0.0000001 off my time, cant beat that.

Well I tested the Wideband out and all is working good. I need to work on cabling the unit in the car to the sensor, so I'll have to try and tackle that this weeked, but I come up with a strategy on how Im going to do that first.

Anyway, I'll take pictures and detail all I can for a good How To.

Now, what exactly, performance-wise, do roller rockers do? I'm still pretty ignorant about most of this stuff...

roller rockers in general cut down on valve train friction....engine works more efficently...thus in turn giving slightly more revvs....

BUT, on higher ratio rockers 1.7, 1.8, 1.9. this increases valve lift, thus making the stock cam slightly bigger to allow more air in and out. that makes for a nice power increase.

scotty.....for shaft style rockers.... are they self aligning or non-self aligning? were they on another 3800 vehicle? just curious. if they ae NOT self aligning....you will require more parts.

As far as I know, they are self-aligning. I didnt ask specifically though because I was not aware that could be an issue. That said, they were on another 3800 car.

But for the sake of arguement, lets say they werent, what other parts would I need?

well if its non self aligning...you will need guideplates for the pushrods....and longer pushrods. basicly you measure the guideplate with a mic, and then add that number to your stock pushrod length. if you try to start up a car with non self aligining..the rockers will go every which way.....

but sounds like you dont have those.........arent you able to use your stock pedestals?

No, I spoke to the vendor via email and asked, dont need the stock pedestals and they are installed without them. In fact there was a short video on their site that showed how to install them and no pedestals are used.

That said, there is a sleeve that goes into the rocker, then the bolt goes through the rocker through that sleeve. It is the sleeve that is changed out to adjust for different length pushrods. But I have Comp Cam replacement pushrods coming that are stock length, just harder and I think a tad thicker.
