Choosing Replacement Suspension

I have the 03 Impala Police Monroe quick struts on my 01 GP and these struts are great!....They ride BETTER than the OEM Delcos on smooth roads but are firm when the road gets twisty or bumpy...They are not harsh riding at all and eliminate all floatiness from the ride PLUS they do ride slightly higher which is great for road clearance and completely eliminate the ridiculous ass end sag, especially with a load in the trunk or rear seats. One of front Monroe Police Struts started to leak at 50,000 miles/3 years. Rockauto replaced both for free. At $81 a quick strut, they are steal...

Hello. I have an '05. This has me interested in something like this for mine. (rear) Is this possible on an '05 GTP? Standard replacement would be just fine for me (especially budget-wise), but an extra plus in perfor-something-anything is always tempting. Do/did you still like them, anything too far off from stock?

OK, I did cross-referencing with an '05 Impala; they (Monroe) have the same part number. I do have 17" wheels. The police (and taxi) do not specify 17". Are police 16"? Also, if this doesn't work out, I'm looking at KYB over Gabriel over Monroe (or similar with police-duty).

Continuing, I see an '05 police Impala 9C1 has P225/60R16 SBR Blackwall, "H" Rated

The Delco replacements for FE3 aren't cheap. They're plenty firm too. It's not entirely clear what ride or handling you're looking for. Some people like Monroe, some don't. I didnt't see a police spec strut online, but there's probably one for the w-body.

Tires.. I dunno. z-rated?

No, I'm not decided. Variable rates sound like what I want, but a repair video makes me think that the lower, softer end will wear too quickly, sag, rub, wear and rust quickly. So I thought police-duty, while I'm at it, might be an extra step up. The car has 120k miles on it now, so I'm mostly easy on it anyway. I guess what I'm looking for here is if police Impalas fit 17" wheels; I do not think so. Knowing FE3 is plenty firm is very helpful.

I just checked the body tag/ build sticker: it's FE2.

I just got to assessing the situation. It's not a cartridge leak, it's brake fluid (and looks to be coming from the emergency brake area).

I will end up going with Gabriels when they need replacing. - Nothing extreme, just a good decision of quality, performance, reputation and price.

Thanks for the reply. The savings from wasted work persuaded me to make a donation to the site.
