"CHECK GAGES" And Battery Light?

I was driving down the highway at about 65mph and i saw the battery light pop up on the cluster, and CHECK GAGES on the HUD. Car acted fine so i continued to drive it and the light went off. Any ideas what this could be?

What Bio posted. The alt and battery went out a week or 2 later.

take the car to autozone or advance auto parts or pepboys... Most do a FREE alternator/battery check.
