Changing Transmission Fuild



id do so at 30,000 but thats still low enough, was the fluid burnt up, brown or anything, if it was still nice and red your doing fine.
 
Absolutely, 50k is the recommended interval I believe.

As long as you used Dex 3 or 6, you should be good.

Are you having problems that you ask that question?

just wondering bout it. no not brown or anything. just dont want anythin to go wrong.
thought it slipped but doubt it..it only did it when i put it in reverse then forward but may only of did tht maybe cuz i wasnt fully in gear?
 


having a trans flush is by far the best thing you can do for your trans, only if it has been done at every 30,000 miles from the beginning of its life, if you don't know the repair history just drop the pan and replace the fluid and filter.

im kinda one of those people. ive never changed tranny fluid in any car and never had a prob. minivan has 222k miles on stock tranny and fluid. so i mean idk. im terrified to drain tranny fluid in the gtp. its at 97k miles i really dnt wanna set myself up for probs.
 


ive heard it both as well, imo its good to have it flushed if you are the first owner and know whats been done to it, some will say if you are over 100,000 miles, and don't know the history to leave it alone, i've seen cars have a flush done with over 100 tho and it never left the garage on its own power, its one of them things, ppl will go back and forth on.

i used to flush my trucks trans every year, i drove it 30,000 miles a year for 5 years straight, i also had a friend who worked at lube express so i got it done for free, i just tipped the tech who did the work, the jobs not cheap it was at the time 120 bucks, i'm sure it costs more now.

the flush im talking about is called a T tech, they remove the trans cooling lines from the radiator and hook it up to a tank, that takes out the old and replaces it with new through the intake line, up to 20 quarts, this swaps out the converter as well, they hold up to 9 quarts that dont come out from a pan drop.

at 97,000 id do a pan drop and filter, it cant hurt.

i bought my car with 212,000 and i am scared to death to touch it lol, its had 8 owners, and i dont have a clue whats been done to it before i got it, sept for what i can tell, my lim was done at some point and maybe even the engine or trans was swapped out, every bolt has socket scars so im sure. theres been a lot of stuff done but im unsure of what.

im just going to leave mine alone for now, when i get my act together im rebuilding my motor and trans at the same time, im thinking one of them tep transmissions, as im not building back to stock, it may even get a whipple blower, i cant wait
 
Would any of you recommend a flush on a tranny that has 110,00 miles on it with absolutely nothing done to it? Nothing is wrong with it, but the fluid is definitely brown, but not burnt.
 
yeh i see a possible pan drop in the future but right now all i see is getting it fixed. sounds like i have rod knock at idle. thats gonna break the bank tomorrow. fml.

thats one of them toss ups, at most maybe do a pan and filter drop, and add a shift kit while you are there.

no way i'd do a flush with that kind of mileage and brown fluid.

Well in that case i will leave it be. Instead I will put the money towards the very distant 4t65e swap.
 
Do not change fuild if it was brown i had a 2000 grand prix checked fuild at 114,000 miles it was brown tlked to ppl they said change it....DO NOT. it will start shifting hard banging gears and making a high whinning noise sounds like ur runnin a r/c car lol. looking for trouble when its brown.
