I'm helping out a friend, trying to save her some money. I am trying to remove the thermostat housing. Is there a way to remove the bottom bolt without dismantling half the upper engine?

The bottom of the thermostat housing is slotted so the bolt only needs loosened.

What a pain! If you change one of these, just suck it up and remove the mass air flow and throttle assembly. That makes it much easier ti get the housing off. I suspect this design came from an engineer that is related to the creator of the side post battery.

The LG8 is a classic example of adapting new technology onto an ancient platform. It's really not that bad, and usually outlasts the tranny it's hooked to.
