Change S/C oil before LIM Change?

I need to change my S/C oil, but I'm going to be doing the LIM soon. When removing everything to replace the LIM will the S/C be drained of oil? I.E. would it be wasteful to change the S/C oil now?

No it doesn't need to be drained to remove the S/C. However if it's been a while since you changed it (or you never have), you might as well do it.

Maybe replace the S/C coupler too as long as your taking things apart.

sc oil is separate form the lim. but when you take it off to do the lim its easier to take its plug out and turn it over to drain it.

I remember reading that the oil smelled terrible when I went to change mine a while back. Gotta say...it wasn't that bad.

Sadly, I think I'm going to take it somewhere to have the LIM changed. Even though I've rebuilt a motorcycle engine and done the cam work on my bike, the GP is a daily driver and I have no garage to do it in.

1 hour? Even the shop I'm looking at taking it to quotes 5-6 hours worth of work. If you truly live next door to me then come help me damn it!

i can do in in about 2 hours now. you loose time cleaning the lim and blower of old gasket. damn things baked on good.

If you're prepared properly, can do it first time in an afternoon. Really isn't much to it on a GTP 3800... Check all the threads, watch a few YouTube vids and get all your parts ready. Easy peasy...

here is a list of things you need 1 10mm socket with extention and everything layout for easy reach and your good it really shouldnt take more than 1 hour

Well since we're discussing it here. Is it just a blob of the RTV on each corner of the cast iron rail under the runner gasket? Then another dab on each corner on top of the rubber runner?

Will it matter if when cleaning the LIM mating surface on the block crud and gasket material falls into the open ports?

Do the fuel injector O-Rings need to be replaced with the supplied ones? Do they need to be lubricated, if so what with?

the lim gaskets snap into locating pin holes. so dab the rtv in all 4 corners, then install all the gaskets, lim and rubber side gaskets, then another dab of rtv in all 4 corners. sealing the rubber to the metal gaskets.

Anytime you pull the injectors replace the rings. You can use ATF as a lubricant for them. It's cheap insurance to make sure your car doesn't go up in smoke. Keep rags and paper towels handy because the cleaner you keep everything the easier the job (and any future jobs) will be, let alone the fact that random gunk in an engine is never good.

Alrighty.

- So, new o-rings for the injectors are a must, and ensure they're lubed.

- RTV comes with the gasket kit, should it be good to use, or use something else?

- Is it okay to spray the mating surfaces of the heads with brake cleaner? or should I use starting fluid?

- Obviously an oil change is due afterwards, as is a spark plug and wire change (due anyhow).

- Should I put a 180 thermostat in, or just stick with a 195?

- Should I flush out the DexCool afterwards and swap to generic green?

I've got that gasket kit, a gallon of undiluted dexcool, oil, oil filter, 195 thermostat, al606 plugs, thermostat gasket, aluminum coolant elbows, PB Blaster (or other unstick product), brake cleaner.

What else am I missing? I'll most likely be doing this in my grandfather's garage so I won't have access to my smattering of random crap, so I need to go prepared.

Last minute add. Is there a gasket for the Supercharger mating to the LIM that will need to be replaced?
