Center new Rack and Pinion Steering Shaft

sounds like the fluid was real cold, and maybe snow jammed helped, but if you pulled hard that could cause the seals to blow out maybe. should have a warranty on it, sucks to have to do it twice. but the second time is easier and faster cause you know what your in for now.

So I got my car up on jacks, ready to re-replace this... got under to take a peek at the rack, and the exterior is so rusted in some parts, it's orange. WTF?? When I took the original unit out, it still looked reasonable.. this has been in for four months and is rusted pretty hard. Is there anything I can do to prevent the new one from rusting up?

My steering has started to be pretty creaky/groany working the wheel lately. I'm wondering whether this is the rack, or if it's the steering knuckle making noise. It looks like the boot might not have been seated as perfectly as it could have been. I'm not keen on replacing it, so are there any quick fixes for this, just add some grease and let it be?

you could probably use lca's and tie rod ends, and maybe strut mounts if you hear creaking. your old rack was how many years old? so dont worry about the new one rusting.

I'm in an '04 with 255k km, the old rack was 10 years old but didn't look awful. LCAs were done about two years ago, and the tie rod ends are Moogs that were put on when I changed the rack out. Haven't done any strut stuff, probably worth having a look at them.

you did grease the new tie rods right? they should have a grease fitting on the top. same with the lca's some have a grease fitting for the ball joint. some dont. only certain moogs iirc do.
