CB Radio's

I troll naked
I pretty much just want to bounce some ideas off you guys...

I plan on putting my old CB into the GP but I don't want the antenna. I also don't need crazy long range or anything.

Would I be able to run the antenna inside the car while using a range booster and still get mediocre range.

Where in the dash/front seat area could I put the unit?

if it werent for the fact that it would use up the cubby, the center between the seat would be nice. yah know the elbow door as most people use it lol, could be hidden away and still usable..
personally i dont talk to smoky or his bandid so im not familiar with CB's LOL

The main thing I need to figure out is the antenna. I drew up a sketch of my idea..

The white is the antenna, I would use a premade one and extend the end of it. It would be behind the rear seat at an angle and running up the rear pillar..

Boosters only affect Output power, which is Federally limited to 4 Watts.

rightchannelradios.com has a lot of good information and tutorials about CB's, antennas, and how to tune for Standing Wave. Read up a bit, and I'm sure you'll see why a CB antenna needs to be outside the car.

Just mount it outside! Its so much easier and it really doesnt look bad. ive seen lots of gps with antennas mag mounted to the trunk. My own included. its not on there right now because im gonna make a custom mount soon but it doesnt look bad. Easiest would be for u to get something like a wilson littlewil Wilson Antenna - Little Wil or something if u dont want anything huge and dont need to be able to shoot too long of range. Although when its tuned right a littlewil is a pretty decent antenna. I actually had the same idea as you as far as mounting. Right now its mounted differently though. i have not had time to try the removing the ashtray idea yet. keep us updated on how that goes.

Your welcome. ive got a hitch im putting on mine soon so i can have a bike rack and im designing a custom antenna mount to slide into the hitch when im not carrying the bike rack. its gonna be sweet when i get done. i may even design it so i can have the antenna and the bike rack both at once. still deciding and designing in my head. not even on paper yet since the hitch is still sitting in my room.

I like CB's just as much as anyone i used to have a 8 foot whip on my truck. But when i got the GP i couldn't figure out a decent way to mount it.

But why on earth would you want to put a hitch on your GP... It looks goofy and they just aren't made to haul anything. If you want to haul your bike get one of those trunk mount bike racks. They're not that expensive and you won't have to drill holes for a hitch.

Just my opinion.

youve got a point ryno although the trunk mounts sometimes cause paint damage an my paints still pretty good aside from someone keying my trunk so i wanna keep it that way if i can. an a hitch looks silly on most cars so imo who cares. if im gonna use it which i def am then i dont see why not esp for the price i paid for it. 40$ but i havent mounted it yet so who knows maybe ill reconsider when i actually hold it up there and see how it looks.

someone here posted a pic of this one hitch they had, was from uhaul and it mounted under the bumper where you couldnt see it.. then the hitch adapter was this wierd angled piece that came from behind the bumper to out in the open.. looks really good.. i will see if i can find the post, if not try searching for it.

Dont worry about it madmonkey ive seen it. Its pretty cool but at the same time for some reason im just not sure that hitch is really a good idea. it just doesnt seem to me like it would be strong enough for anything if you ever got adventurous enough to try an pull something but anywy enough with the hitch discussion. back on topic. Anyone else have any good mounting ideas for StuntOrider? I wanted to possibly have a custom fiberglass dash mount of some nature made at some point but decided that was just gonna be way too ugly to even think about doing.

Antenna outside of the car is a def no. I dont want the scratchs from the magnet and its just plain ugly. I might be moving my plan to behind the back bumper.
