catted vs catless

Is there really a big difference when going without a cat. How much of a horsepower difference is it with your basic 3.4 setup.

No difference whatsoever. The cat is only there for emissions purposes that is all.
-Edit- There might be a slight difference in the exhaust note but that is about it.

The cat breaks up the bark on de-accel and also removes the bark/rasp that you will get occasionally around 2500-3000 rpm

im also fairly certain the amount of soot on my tailpipes is from removing the cat.
I never used to get it on my GMPP catback tips until I went cat less.
My other car I had 6 years never had soot on the magnaflow cat back tip until I removed the cat.

I didn't notice anything performance wise. Just more rasp and soot once it's removed

All this is definitely news to me. I always thought that most people went without a cat for performance reasons.

in the 80's maybe. not for these cars.

like i said, if you need a cat get a 50 dollar hi flow one off ebay. have the rear o2 and cat codes deleted and your done.

These cats are of the monilith type and offer little restriction as compared to pellet cats from when converters didn't belong on performance stuff. One reason to run a cat on a 3800 W-body is smell. The exhaust stinks less with a cat. Performance gains on a mild build from going catless are negligible.

I don't mind the catless exhaust, sure it's a stronger smell and burns the eyes and slowly kills me but that's the fun right?

There would be a point at which a cat converter wouldn't even be considered but that's at a power level that creates so much heat they would melt down all the time. Talking like big turbo power here.

My favorite saying used to be "If it has an unleaded sticker on it, its too new." but a few years ago I ran the GT with gutted cat for a short time, and maaan... it would gag a maggot on cold starts. This, coming from a carb lover!
