catalytic converter replacement

I've been searching this topic but still looking for more detailed info. Need to replace the converter and have read to get a "quality one" but that doesn't really help someone like me. I don't want SES lights or having to tune which I've read can happen with certain ones. There's a lot of threads I've read , but most all seem to be removing cat and tuning, or plug fouler trick.

What brands should I be looking at/for and from what sources? Sending me in the right direction or any advice or specific product recommendations greatly appreciated, got a quote of around 550 from a shop (general mechanic shop not muffler shop. Not sure of the brand or anything but it was like 450 plus 85 for labor plus 10 shop fees. I can check prices from muffles shops but I'd like to see what's out there I can get myself or make sure I'm getting a quality product.

I see rock auto has 4 bolt on brands available, but thats about the extent of my product search, I've been reading more threads than shopping cats.
DAVICO MANUFACTURING Part # 59379,
WALKER Part # 54752 ,
EASTERN CATALYTIC Part # 50358
BOSAL Part # 0795147

Jesus.

No.

ZZPerformance.

3" catted downpipe.

Bolts in.

No hassle.

Less than $200 for the cat with the downpipe. Better performance and MPG's. No difference in exhaust note so you won't even notice a non-factory part. Won't set SES lights or anything like that.

If an exhaust shop charges you more than $50~ to put it in, then find another shop.

And there's one or two used ones forsale in the classifieds here.. Go used or new ZZP unless you like spending more money and dropping $500 on one.

Been reading way too many threads I guess it's all getting jumbled together by now...I thought ZZP downpipes would in fact set SES lights, at least I thought I read that. Unless I'm doing it wrong, I'm seeing $225 for 3" stainless bolt on with cat or $205 for 2.5" stainless bolt on plus $20 for 02 extension plus shipping. (275 total for 3" + harness+shipping)

I should add this car won't be kept too much longer, maybe even sometime this year but no more than 4 years for sure. I see rock auto has a WALKER Part # 54752 Walker EPA Ultra Direct Fit Converter for 173 shipped plus a $50 prepaid card rebate. Is that a good enough quality and less expensive alternative? I did come across one thread I recall seeing walker mentioned as a good brand.

If Walker doesn't suck, I certainly wouldn't mind saving $152 if anyone can comment on the brand.

Am going to check the classified section now see whats in there.

ZZP's are a high flow cat, it could very well set a light. Every car is different and every cat is NOT made the same as it's impossible to do so. That being said, you could buy one and not have an issue for years or you'll install it and get a code within a few hundred miles.

I installed a weld in style walker cat on my sisters grand prix 2 years ago, hasnt tossed a code since and has maybe 5,000 miles on it.

ups man just dropped off my new kitty cat. 50 shipped its a 3 inch, they also offer a 2.5 one for 50 too.

I have a ZZP 2.5" DP w/cat on my 99 GTP, for what its worth. Many miles on it now with no complaints. Using an emulator also so no SES light. I bought 2.5 because I had a GT at the time (stock flex joint was bad), but swapped it onto a GTP. Normally a guy would want a 3" on a S/C car. I just wanted to add that your car won't suffer with an aftermarket 2.5". At least mine didn't, performance-wise. Its otherwise stock. I can't comment on any OE-type replacements, never bought or used one.
