Caspers Electronic Timing thingy?

Does anyone have one? I know a tuner is better but it looks like you can adjust your timing on demand/on the fly. Does it really work. I know it tricks the ECU into thing the IAT is either warmer or colder. I'm just try to figure out if I should get one or not. Does anyone have any better suggestions other than a tuner? As usual, thanks guys!

it will not work without tuning your timing tables to work with it. you cant just slap it in and have it work. without a tune its exactly like all the ebay 'chips'.

i had one, liked the idea of running low timing most of the time and when i wanted to get beasty id turn the knob up.

why buy one when its so easy to make? you just put a potentiometer in a box and wire it into the IAC connector. actually, you just need the pot and thats it.

Even if you don't change the IAT table, it should still give you about 2* of extra timing. The stock IAT table looks like this:

iat.jpg

If you tell the computer that the temps are -40, you get 2* more at WOT.

radio shack will have the potentiometer for maybe $12. i have a few , 10k and 50k, lying around..make ur own.

just make sure you get one with a set number of positions, like 10. 10 clicks on it for these timing ranges:

-5 (~10* WOT)
-4
-3
-2
-1
0
1
2
3
4 (~20* WOT)

then you have to tune your timing tables to work at those set points that the IAT would then command. done, timing changes on the fly.
