Just got some bad news. My bro's 97 Grand Prix GT is about to throw a rod. Were debating on looking for a GP engine but we would rather get a Supercharged 3.8 but only if its worth it. Guy quoted him 4k for a rebuilt engine with install.....FFS. anybody here know some people in ohio that can give him a nice deal. He's trying to stay GP dedicated but...if its too much we gotta get rid of it :(

find a motor at a junkyard, off ebay or even craiglist for under 600 bucks and drop it in.

its not worth it to rebuild because ther are a dime a dozen.

and that guy must be HIGH out of his mind to charger 4k for rebuild and install.

i new crate motor cost less than 3k

talk to kfish and see what he can find.

or search car-part.com

If its a 97 GT you're going to be best off in getting a 97-02 L67 engine, transmission, wiring harness, PCM, and CV axles.

It'll be expensive but he wont have that weaker transmission anymore and it'd have quite a bit more go.

I'm not typing that again.

The wire harness, but you can make yours work, you would need to do a hd upgrade to your transmission, and computer. The one i just posted was s/c

hes going to need to get a hd one though a standard 4t65e will not hold up

Wow...

Just wow.

This is a topic for a new thread.

I was merely suggesting an HD so that he could use the PCM and not have to worry about getting the tranny tables changed.

The HD is not necessary at all other than for simplifying the process.

Just a FYI bossman...

The 4T65E and the 4T65E-HD are EXACTLY the same transmissions...only difference is the Axles that are used, the HD has a stonger differential, and the HD transmission uses stupid 2.93 gears vs. the Non-HD 3.29's...which are better geared towards performance AND MPG's. If you don't do one wheel wonders around every corner and beat on it every 5 minutes...then it'll be fine. A HD transmission will go to the wayside just as fast as a Non-HD one if you beat on it.

Quit giving the guy bad info and prices on motors that suck. These things can be had from junkyards...WITH warranties...for a couple hundred...or on CL. Hell...he could rebuild his motor and make it brand new for $500...hopefully your not trying to rip the guy off.

@matt my bad lol
@bluegtp what's the process of rebuilding the engine? Wouldn't it be impossible if the engin is about to throw a rod

I would not suggest attempting it. If you have to ask if it can be rebuilt, you probably dont have the resources to do it. I would go the salvage yard route. Just to correct Nick, 2.93s are better for your mileage.
